Advice on a Laptop

I am searching for a laptop for college. Would like it to be really portable, but also to have a reasonably sized screen (i.e. not any smaller than 14", preferably 15"). Need it mostly for taking notes, listening to music and maybe watching the occasional movie. If it were able to do a little bit of photo editing or video editing, that'd be cool, but it isn't a must. Long battery life is a must.

That being said... I've seen the new Sony TrueBrite or whatever they are screens and they look totally awesome - much better than the dell my father just got. I'm also not such a fan of Sony however.

So I'm wondering - what type of laptop would you recommend buying? I've heard IBMs and Dells are really solid PCs. I've also used Macs, but I'm not sure I'd want one because they are switching soon to x86 and I've heard they don't get great battery life.

Your opinions would be treasured

sony is horrible except for their screens, their battery life blows,

if you want a fast, light, reilable laptop go for the Asus W3V its a 14" with an X600 GPU

For the requirements you mentioned, I second this recomendation. Just be sure to get a chip with a 533FSB. Unless you plan on pin modding it from 400 to 533. You will see a huge performance difference in everyday use with this FSB increase.
