Hello,

Long story short is that i run a 3200+ system with ddr memory, on AGp running a 6800gt oc and it totally died... I am not really sure if i wana spend the money to fix it.. So i have been looking at intel systems and i was pretty set on a E6600 conroe chip with all of the bells and whistles..

Intel or well basically everyone says april 22nd there will be price dumps etc.. So i was was going to hold off on the new system till then but after digesting the info i am not sure if its worth it..

What the april 22 price drop means to me:

the e6600 will dump about 80 to 100 bucks cheaper then what it is today..

Q6600 will dump from 800 ish bucks to 500 ish bucks

And they may release some new chips at a faster fsb.

I am not sure i can get excited about quad core in april for 500 ish bucks..
Now when they do the Q4 price cuts and the quads dump to under 300 i can get excited but i am assuming there will be some 8x core goodness out by then and well my pc is toast right now..

So i guess here are my questions..

is 100 bucks savings worth waiting until april 22 on a E6600

does Quad core make sence since xp only supports 2x cpus and most games dont work on 2 cpu's let alone 4 "this is my gaming rid"

While i may make the jump to vista at some point or dual boot and can use quad cores.. i am still stuck with the whole Dual core - Quad core issue running games

did i totally misunderstand the april 22 price cut?

I am in a man down situation where i have no good gaming pc and stuck playing solitare on my other pc's :-P so i am wanting to get something soonish..

Since i have to buy an entire new system i just wanna do what makes the most sence

Thanks

Is money tight on your end of pocket?

Why do you want a E6600? You think E6600 will last you longer than a overcloked E4300 or E6300? Why not just buy a low end Core 2 duo and overclock then sometime next year swap it out for quad?

I guess in reality questioning 200 bucks in my system is really pointless when i look at the system as a whole.

Oh yea side not i dont OC anymore.. had a real run of back luck ocing and i dont do it any more i usually just get what ever chip that was in the 350ish price area..

System specs "ready to pull the trigger on at any time"

E6600
Intel Bad Ax 2 MB
4 gig Corsair dominator memory
2 x 150 gig raptors in raid 0
500 gig storage drive 16mb cache, 7200 rpm

Sound Blaster X-fi Sound card

Currenlty have a Dell 2405 FPW LCD

Due to vista DRM i may end up having to buy another 2407fpw for the HDCP compability but in that case I my get the 30in Wide LCD from dell but not that is a bad thing.

ehh i gues this entire post was kinda poinless when i look at the system i speced out and i should not second guess 200 bucks if i was willing to buy a E6600 at todays pricings.

If you have the cash just do it and enjoy now. You won't be saving that much later on even if the processor drops in price. You will have to wait few extra weeks after price drop to see new pricing effect.

here is a thought.....

buy an ASUS board that is ready for Quad core. buy a cheaper processor till the whole price circus ends. then put in a quad and sell the cheaper processor on eBay.

just another option to mix things up a bit.... :D
