Advice Needed: Stimulus Upgrade

I'm sure many people will be spending their stimulus checks on PC upgrades and I'm hoping to do the same. However, I'm not really sure what would be the best upgrade for me at the moment. I primarily use my computer for gaming.

CPU:AMD 1700x OC to 3.9
GPU: Gigabyte 5700XT
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR 3000MHZ C15
Mobo: ASUS ROG STRIX B350-F Gaming
Monitor: LG 25UM56 25" Ultrawide Gaming Monitor 60Hz

I recently upgraded SSD, case, PSU, and GPU so those should be fine.

I guess my biggest question is whether it's worth upgrading from 1700x to a 3600x or whether I should wait for the 4000 series and whether I'll need a new Mobo or not.

Not much to upgrade unless you wanna overhaul the whole system. No one knows if 4000 series will work with old boards but if it was me, I’d probably get a 3600 and call it good until the new stuff comes out. Should be about the same multi core but a nice bump in single core performance.

Thanks for the advice. One further question, is the extra 25$ worth it to bump to a 3600x?

Probably not for me especially if you think you’ll get a 4000 series chip. I’d either go for 3600 or 3700x.

Have to agree that the 3600 or 3700x and a 144hz monitor and call that system good and enjoy it. Maybe go to 32Gb ram to call it totally done. Best thing is that even if a board swap is needed down the road you can carry all of it to one that supports the 4000 series.

Thanks for the advice. Doing research on monitors right now...not really familiar with them lately. Any recommendations? Seems to be alot of options and hoping I can get a good one for 200-300.

Yeah I agree after looking at your monitor specs, a 1440p 144Hz would be a nice upgrade. Check rtings for specific models. I don’t think 32GB RAM would make any difference for gaming.

Hardware Unboxed on Youtube has some good monitor reviews. Also Techspot is their website if you prefer reading about it rather than watching the Vids. ( I like the articles for reviews personally). Missing those on [H] for sure!

I run an Asus MG279 1440p, 144hz I've had for a while and it was spendy at the time it has been terrific for me. The same or better specs are available now for less.

Stuff I personally ike to see for gaming displays
27in--1080p or 1440p.
IPS
144hz or more
Gsync or Freesync. Better yet prefer cheaper than Gsync displays which are Freesync monitors that are proven Gsync compatible.

Subjective stuff:
Resolution
Screen size
Curved or not
Ulrtrawide
Panel type , IPS>VA> TN are my personal rankings but if you are going all out on refresh rate TN is cheapest and fastest still
HDR
Price
