advice needed for small upgrade

Hi...just needed a quick opinion on a small upgrade to sff. Currently running a Barton 2500+ lol...for cs:source, surfing the net, streaming, etc. Not really into o/cing these days.

I'm trying to do this on a budget, and will build a whole new system in the sping.

Existing Components from current rig I need to use:
1. Ram = PC3200 Kingston HyperX - 2 X 512
2. VideoCard = AGP - BFG 6800GT OC 256MB
3. 160GB HD - IDE, CD/DVD Burners, Wireless Nic

Components I Need:
1. Processor = Comparing Venice 3800+ vs SanDiego 3700+ both priced at ~$99 on new egg...go with Venice? SanDiego shows 1MB Cache does it matter?

2. AGP mATX Mobo = Asus A8V-MX = $65 ZipZoomFly (newegg is out of stock)

Ditch the Qpack and get this instead. It is easier to work with, has better ventilation, and a much much better PSU. Plus its cheaper after MIR.

Either processor will do fine, they are pretty much equal.

The 3700 is cheaper at ZZF.

The need for AGP really kills your motherboard upgrade path. That Asus is your best choice.

Man if it were me I would get something like a socket 939 6150 board and use the onboard video until I could scrape together the funds for a PCIExpress video card.

Or get the 6150 board, sell your old crap, then get a PCI express card.
 
The cache doesn't really matter for gaming, surfing, etc... Get the 3800+, it's faster than the 3700+. A Venice is also a bit cooler. Or get the 3500+ because it's almost as fast as the 3700+ and cheaper. It depends on the budget you're willing to spend. ;)
 
get a 3000+ venice and OC the crap out of it... they have been known to be the best OCers behind the opteron 144 & 3700+


its like $60 on newegg and i got one off ebay full retail for $33 and I am OCing it right now.

I am at 2.4 on stock vcore with an MSI matx board. if i cared to find the max on this thing i would through it into my WCed DFI SLI-DR and push it...

PClark99, I will go with Microfly case you suggested for $60 on ZZF.

I will also go with a PCI-E mATX 6150 board like you advised, and will run onboard video for a little bit.

I have an LCD monitor and LCD tv, so DVI out is a preferred. I've been looking at the Foxconn on NewEgg $60, or the ASUS A8N-VM CSM on ZZF (leaning towards) $83 w/free shipping.

I have used both the MSI and the Asus boards, either of them will work well.

Get the cheapest you can find.

Not bad for $240.

Hi Everyone:

I got my new rig up and running everything runs perfect and stable.

The only problem is the onboard video when I'm playing games. Once i'm in the actually game, the picture is shaky and jittery.

I also get some rendering problems where polygons shift up and down...kinda of like a kalidoscope. There is no discoloration, or checkboards, pink or whites. This is in CS:Source and Quake 2, the only games I have installed.

- I am using a DVI connection to one 17 inch LCD monitor.
- I have all the lastest drivers, bios, windows updates, dx9.0c, SP2, fresh install
- Tried numerous video drivers from Nvidia's site, and Asus' site.
- I've allocated max memory 128MB to the onboard video in the bios.
- V-Sync is enabled, but I still get a little tearing. Have tried both settings for application choses, and manually...no luck.
- Tried numerous resolutions, settings
- Talked to ASUS - said they couldn't help, and the board might be bad.
- Cpu Temp is fine at 29 Celsius. Running Stock HSF. Stock Speeds.
- Did searches on multiple forums

Desktop, websurfing, watching videos is fine. It's just when I play games.

My Setup:
San Diego 4000+
ASUS A8N-VM CSM matx w/onboard GeForce6150
2 X 512MB PC3200 HyperX
80 Gig SATA Seagate
Microfly Case

Any info or advice would be great, I'll try any fixes/work arounds, hell it might be something simple?

Worst case scenario I'll RMA it.

A foxconn 6150-8ekrs is a better mobo for a compact system and look into a 7600gt for a good vid card
