Hi all,

I need a new LCD monitor, but don't know what would suit me the best. My use will be as follows:

* No games or DVDs on this screen---ever, so low response time not a priority!
* Lots of text (mail, web, word processing, etc), so great text handling a must.
* Some photo editing, so a true 24 bit (16,7 M) color screen prefered.
* DVI input a must.
* USB ports would be nice, but not necessary.
* Pivot, height adjustment etc would also be nice, but not necessary.

Due to a shortage of cash, I'm probably aiming for a 17" screen, but a 19" could be nice if the price is right and I could even stretch to the 2001FP if it happens to fit my criterias. I've been looking at pretty much everything in the market, but feel unsure of how much can be gained on the Dell 1704FP that's being offered with a 20 % discount in Sweden at the moment.

So, can anyone translate my wishes above to a couple of screens good enough to be bought unseen? I certainly hope so, because I'm going mad here! ;)

Thanks in advance,

Tommy :)

I have the Samsung 910T, which is currently being discounted at several online vendors. I use it for word processing, minor photo editing and web surfing - no gaming. Excellent colors, text, DVI, etc...I like it so much that I am going to buy another Samsung - probably the 711T - for a second computer.

Those are pretty nice,or you could try a 193P,a little more expensive, but it's worth every penny.

One vote for a sealed ebay 2100fp...its just amazing.

To be honest, both Samsung screens are a little more than I care to spend on a 1280*1024 screen. That kind of money (here in Sweden where everything costs an arm, a leg and your first born baby), can almost get you a low end (Dell) 1600*1200 screen and that seems more attractive. Then again, I realize I might be too cheap for my own good and should perhaps save up to be able to buy quality (Eizo, Samsung, etc) instead of settling with something I'll end up replacing in a year or so.

NEC's 70 series (http://www.nec-mitsubishi.com/corem...=Products__Details__Main,docId=95072,type=LCD) seems to be popular here in the Nordic countries and said to have excellent color reproduction, even though its only a 6 bit screen. Can anyone comment on its preformance?

Also, how does Dell compare to the usual suspects? There seems to be a lot of problems with their screens when reading these forums, but other (thanks MeanieMan) seem to be very happy with them. I'm getting confused! :|

Thanks for the answers! Keep 'em coming! ;) :)

Hard to believe, eh? :) To tell you the truth, I actually do play the odd game of Spider Solitaire, so I can probably call myself a hard core gamer too! ;)

Well, I've made my choice! It going to be an Eizo, either an L568 or an L768 depending on what my girlfriend thinks suits us best (it's either or for me to be honest), but the 768 seems to have the upper hand at the moment.

Thanks for your input guys! :)
