Advice for new PC owner?

Just bought a PC with onboard 7.1 and Vista.

I would like to upgrade, but is the consensus still that now is NOT the time to be buying entry-level sound cards if you have Vista. (If it matters, I don't want one for games per se; it's mainly for listening to music.)

You should look at the Auzentech X-Meridian 7.1. For analog sound quality it is a top notch card.
Has replacable Opamps so you can further increase the sound quality. I just installed new ones in mine and it sounds amazing.
I am guessing you have heard of the card so there is no need to go into detail about it. If you have specific questions though I will answer them. Happy card hunting.
