ADSL & Router Recommendations?

I'm looking for an ADSL modem with combined wireless router for my dads system. He is with Virgin Media ADSL 4MB and currently uses no router, and the ISP standard modem (Speedtouch 330). The Speedtouch connects only via USB so the Router he recently purchased (D-Link DIR-615) which has no USB connection does not work. The actual connection to the PC can be wired via Ethernet cable if need be, but wireless devices like a laptop have to be able to wirelessly access the Internet from another room. His motherboard is the Gigabyte GA-MA770T.

Any recommendations? His budget is £80 maximum.

Thanks

Anyone? It's reached the 2nd page now and no reply. Hasn't anyone here got an ADSL and router wireless?

Your ADSL modem plugs into the WAN port on the router. The router will probably have a switch built into it. You can plug the computer in off of the switch.

You didn't read what I said. The modem has no ethernet connection, only USB. The router only has ethernet ports, no USB so how can the two fit? The USB cable from the modem cannot fit into the back of an ethernet router can it?

I read and comprehended your post. You totally edited it, tool. Don't expect anymore help from me.

I'm sorry you feel this way but my edit was only to rephrase what I already wrote. I did not add any extra information, it is the same, just explained better. I wish I could show you the original post, you would see that I am correct.

criccio, I know my dad needs a new modem, that is why I am posting here, this is what I am asking. A modem and wireless router combined.

Don't get them combined. Buy two separate devices, otherwise your going to be getting some obscure device that nobody else uses. If you already have a wifi router (D-Link DIR-615) then just buy a modem.
I don't know what would work with your provider (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2050400018&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&Subcategory=18&description=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=adsl+ethernet, but buying a new modem/router is not the best answer.

You could buy something like this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825115026, but why? Its expensive and not very common.

I have no idea where you would need to buy from and the pricing, these are links are for US.

I would be buying from the UK at overclockers.co.uk or scan.co.uk. Buying a modem seperately is very expensive (the same price as a new modem and router combined). Why is this? I really need suggestions, links to US sites aren't going to help unless the same item can be purchased within the UK.

Anything you can find that has an Ethernet port and is up to spec for the service you have. Its not that complicated. DSL is a relatively old technology, its not something we are very enthusiastic about so its not like we have a ton of recommendations like we would if you where asking about video cards of CPU's.

Go to whatever website you would normally buy from, find the DSL modems, looks at their features, buy one. Simple.

It's difficult because modems come with built in router. Why are router and modems combined a bad idea?

Are these any good? and what are the differences?

Any of those will work perfectly fine. There isn't much difference between them, a vanilla ADSL2+ modem is a vanilla ADSL2+ modem.

I like the Siemens SpeedStream 4100 for a nice simple ADSL modem. It's not ADSL2+ or anything, but I've picked up a number of them for $10-$15 each on eBay, brand new in the AT&T/Yahoo box. It's very simple to set it to Bridged mode so that the router gets the WAN IP, unlike some of the other DSL modems I've dealt with (like the 2Wire combo modem/router that came with my parents' DSL).

Just wanted to let you all know what I decided.

I decided to keep the D-Link DIR-615 Wireless Router and purchased a D-Link DSL-320B ADSL modem. Everything is working fine for my dad so thanks all!
