I would really like to add an intake to my P180. I was thinking about mounting a 120mm fan in the 5.25" bays. I saw this Scythe product on Newegg here and I like the idea but I can't really see spending $20 on that when I would be replacing the fan anyway. Does anyone know of a similar product or a mod that would allow me to utilize my drive bays for fan mounting?
 
That's a really good product. I had 2 of them for my radiator. The fan is actually pretty nice!
 
The Scythe product is very good, but im all with you that its too expensive.

If it was me I would make a metal piece that mounted in like a normal 5 1/4" bay device does, but uses up 2 or 3 bays and then cut a whole big enough for the fan. Drill holes for the fan to mount to it. Attach fan and fan grill if you so desire. Then put it in like you would mount a bay mounted fan controller. In total it will probably cost you 5 dollars for the material to make the mount and another 5-15 for the fan.

I was thinking about trying a custom solution. I'm definitely not very good with such things though. Maybe I'll sketch it out and see what I can come up with.
 
I like the scythe because it's very clean looking.

It'd be very tough to match the professional look of the kama, with your own materials.
 
That's a great solution, except that you gotta chop up the mounting on the p180 rails to get it to fit properly.
 
im also looking to mod my brother p180 for another air intake, its is running hotter then his old case. i have spare side panels any help would be nice. Thanks

The top fan is already being used as an intake. I would like to have 2 front intakes and then use the rear and top as exhaust. That way the airflow is more even.
 
im thinking of more intakes the what the case has. Like a air channel for the processor. Cutting for a 140mm or 120mm fan with 80/90CFM and low dBA. And using a stylish fan grill and filter for it. Since my brother is running xp120 it would use dual 120mm to either pull or push air. I have tested it, the tempatures are the same whether im forcing the air to the cpu or pulling away. But, im thinking if i have more direct pull it will cool it rather then moving the hotness to other areas of the case. He's got 2x dvd burners, so im thinking he wouldnt want to take one of them out just for air. Hes running on idle 44C (Processor) and 39-40C System Temps. My goal is to get him at 35C Case and 40C Processor without spending alot. Hes got an Opteron 170 Dual core , non oc. and a xp-120 heatsink. Any and all help is welcomed.
 
I'm not sure why or when i posted that last post but that has to be the dumbest thing i have ever said on these forums in a long time. Making the top exhaust fan an intake fan would actually be a bad idea since you have an exhaust fan so close. So ignore that post. Your best bet would be to figure out how to mount something similar to the scythe kama.

Actually in the P180 having the top fan as an intake works great for cooling my CPU. I have a Scythe Ninja and the extra airflow through the fins helps. Right now having the top fan as an intake is good but I think if I had better airflow from an additional front intake I could flip the top fan to exhaust and I would get better cooling of my entire system and not just the CPU.
