Adding Wii Channels?

I'm trying to find a straight answer on adding more Wii Channels. Obviously, they give you plenty of spcae to add more channels, but how do you go about doing this? If I read online somewhere, I can add Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii each as a channel, and you can play the single player game from the channel without the disc? Even if you can't actually play it, how do you install the channel for these games? What add-on channels are you using?

as far as I know, you can't have a disc based game in seperate channels.

hence, there is the "Disc" channel.

Other channels are added by downloading them.

One thing that pisses me off is the virtual console games get a seperate channel for each game.

Just make a damn VC channel!!

I haven't downloaded any virtual console games yet, but that's dissapointing to hear. I would rather they have a VC channel that when loaded will list your current games. Sort of like when you view your titles, on the Games blade, on an Xbox 360.

As far as the original topic is concerned, I never heard anything about adding separate channel for each disk game you have, unless they support it. I guess Wii Fit does, and Mario Kart, but nothing else. At least that's according to wikipedia.

You can add/download more channels by visiting the Wii Store channel (I can't remember the exact name, but that might be right). There's not a whole lot though. There's the Check Mii Out Channel, Everybody Votes Channel and Internet Channel (which isn't free). There might be one other one.

Some new games allow you to install content channels onto your main screen, MK does this and its essentially like putting in the disc and going to the MKW channel (buttom right option) from main menu. I dont believe you can play anything straight from it, but you can launch the game from within it since content textures and things must still be read from the disc itself.

Other games will be doing this and I believe SSBB was one of the first to have the option.

When you setup MKW it asks you if you want to install the channel and if you skipped it go back into the options and do it.

Oher spaces are for things you download from the store, Wiiware, online channel, Everybody Votes, and Virtual Console titles.

Btw the internet channel is free

No it's not.

It used to be free. And if you got in on it while it was free, you can still use it free.

Anyone getting it now has to pay 500 wii points.

Correct. The Internet Channel is 500 points. I don't know how long the free deal lasted, since I didn't have a Wii at the time, but the last time I was checking the "marketplace" (2 days ago), it was 500 points.

which made me mad. I had the Wii when the internet channel was free, and then they made it not free. If I had known that they were going to do that, I would have signed up for it. Now I have to decide if I want to pay the 500 points to use the internet channel. I don't even know what's on it, ut I know that if I have it, I can stream my Orb content to the browser via Flash (configured in Orb), which sounds really appealing, but I'm not real happy with the idea of having to pay for it now (whether that's my fault for not paying attention or Nintendo's for making it 500 points, you decide). It's a bummer, either way.

It's a web browser, that's all.

Pretty cool I suppose to watch youtube on the big screen, so you can rickroll grandma & grandpa at thanksgiving, or a nice romantic nite themed to Chocolate Rain, but other than that... it's just a web browser.

I don't usually care much for Youtube, but with the Wii, there's not way (legally) to stream to it from a media server. The thing just doesn't do it. It doesn't natively support encoded file type (video) playback, so there's my dilemma. 500 points, okay, not a lot of $, I know. But, with the web browser paid for, I could stream all of my music, my recorded and converted videos, my ripped DVD collection, etc. It's just a bummer that you have to pay for the web browser now, when I had access to the free one, and didn't know they were going to change it. It was just one of those projects I didn't get to in time. I guess I'm mad at myself.

It was free while it was beta. It was posted up on a lot of forums when the change from free to charge was being made.

I would like to point out that there are a lot of free flash games out there that've been made for the wii...

well, ithere's a good number of flash games you can play through the internet channel... the wiimote works like a mouse so there's quite a number of free games you can play...

mostly user created content, which sometimes can be quite impressive... not sure if its worth the 500 wii points needed to get the internet channel, but its your call

The funny part about the Internet channel is that it's already on your Wii - all the menus and stuff are written in HTML. Homebrewers who screwed up the menus when doing their thing would get an Opera page not found error. :)
