Adding PCI-E x16 Slot

Ok, heres the deal

My motherboard is an Intel D915GAG
On there website it says
Expansion Capabilities
Two PCI Conventional* bus connectors check
One PCI Express* x1 bus add-in card connector check
One PCI Express x16 bus add-in card connector wtf?

There it is, a PCI-E x16 Slot on my same exact motherboard.

Now i go in and look at my motherboard

check it out, its the pins for a PCI-E x16 connector....
but the connector isnt there, like it is on that picture of the D915GAG which is exactly what i have.

So heres my question, is it possible for me to put a PCI-E x16 connector on those pins and have it work.
It seems like it would work but if it did wouldnt there be a connector there?

Im still looking for a video card and have found jack for standard PCI so thats why i need this pci-e slot.

While the traces exist for the socket, you most likely also have traces for some of the support logic that goes along with it. Little diodes, caps and resistors that would enable it's presence.

You'd be better off swapping for a board that has the PCI-I x16 slot.

return the mobo, this must have been a defect or something. If theres supposed to be a slot, there should be a slot.

We have some ASUS Intel boards at work for our staffs Office 2003 systems that have the "integrated Intel Graphics". These come with the traces but not the slot, that's optional and is a different SKU#.

Since they don't do any 3D work and we certainly don't want them to even be running solitaire, they're great boards!

You could return it, but most likely you'd need to order a different board # to get the socket.
