Adding another hard drive makes computer not boot :(

Im testing out a 250gig sata drive and when i boot up, it gets to the windows 7 logo then halts. But as soon as i unplug it (after ive shut down of course) then everything works.

Can i plug it in after windows has loaded?

The bios sees the drive correctly.
 
As long as it's SATA, yes you can hot-swap it in after the computer is already running.

The reason why it's not loading is probably because it's loading Windows off that drive, had that happen to me before. Wasn't paying attention that it changed the newly added hard drive to the boot drive, for some odd reason.
 
You can boot with just the power connector plugged, then plug the data cable when under windows. You will need AHCI activated in the BIOS. If the HDD is defective, it's possible it will crash you system even then.
