I wanna put a side window on my case. what tools will i need to cut away the alluminum? and what do i do if the paint chips?
 
Not if you use the right bits and techniques. It's been done many times. My windows have all been done with a Dremel, but that's because of the designs I use. If it were a simple shape, jigsaw all the way :)
 
wat kind of case do you want to put a window in? a jig saw will eat through those cheapy $30 powmax/raidmax cases

just curious, but why would you want to make your computer look like it was made by a horrible company?

just my thoughts, impress your non techie freinds? any pre-built computer company is generally hated in [H]
 
Maybe they just like the look of that case? Some people do actually appreciate prebuilt equipment. I am personally a DIY guy. I dont pay the enflated prices - I can support my own stuff. But there are some very nifty designs out there. I can remember when Alienware had the case that EVERYONE wanted. *enter Antec into the consumer market* Thats right - we all remember the origional Alienware cases. The Green one, oh yea - hot.

So - in closing - get over your hate for the manufacturers. If it weren't for them, the market wouldn't be driven to what it is. We wouldn't have all the options available to us that we do. They sell the supplies, the suppliers see that they are popular ideas, build off of them, and allow us to create the masterpieces we do.

I say we should all just get over it.

Be sure to use something to support the case side to prevent it, like use a piece of wood to sandwich your case side with, if its already painted be sure to mask off the window/cut to prevent any chipping, and use a rag or cloth to prevent the contact of your wood backer/support on the finished case....and as mentioned

just curious, but why would you want to make your computer look like it was made by a horrible company?

Sorry if i like the look of a voodoo case. i would never spend 5k on a computer i could easily build myself.

hmm...for someone who joined last month you sure like to make general statements about the people on this forum. i dont think anyone hates pre-built systems, more likely that we just prefer to build our own. really what was the point of your post? to make it seem that you're [H]ard? to impress other [H] members? get over it. if the guy wants to make some cuts in his case and make it look nice then whats the problem. last time i checked voodoo makes some nice laser cuts.

to OP, if you're making a long straight cut then use a jigsaw. for curved and more intricate designs use a dremel. and dont forget the metal files :)
