Adding a Pixel Qi screen to a Samsung N150 Notebook

I'd like to add a "Pixel Qi" screen to a Samsung N150 Notebook to be able to read in full sunlight.

I found an affordable Pixel Qi screen on ebay but I don't know if it is a scam. I asked those guys like 3 questions on separate emails and the ONLY answer I got is: "hello , I am sorry can not confirm ,thanks".

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/260870697458?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

These guys also sell the same Pixel Qi screen on:

www.Os-Store.ca and www.Os-Store.com

Are they for real or a scam?

Can someone find an affordable and reliable source for a Pixel Qi screen?

Ebay is the go to for individual parts. The guy is based out of taiwan so maybe he just can't read your email? I'd love to see the mod if you get it going.

With the right parts it can be done. But getting Pixel Qi is the hardest.

As far as I can see, Pixel Qi is a very good screen to have in bright light conditions.

BUT there is some strange forces preventing this screen to get to the mass market.

I don't know what power is restraining this technology from coming out. I find this really weird.

Hi,

I think I can help you, bearing in mind free advice is worth what you pay for it.

First the Pixel Qi screens are awesome if you need to work in the sunlight, and don't mind monochrome screens outside, colour inside with backlight on. We don't care about color, we just need to see the data we are logging outside, the brighter the sun, the better the screens looks.

Check out the list below pasted from another source, I don't see the Samsung N150 on it, but I had seen the N150 other places with the Pixel Qi being a direct replacement, but you should confirm it yourself. You want not only the correct resolution / ratio and screen size, but ideally you want a key to turn on/off the backlight to maximize power savings. Maker Shed used to have a list on their forum, when they had screens to sell, but I can't find it anymore on their site, similar list below.

The screens you are looking at won't work, they are the wrong aspect raito / resolution. I know, because after having made the swap you are looking at doing on a Lenovo S10-2, with some screens bought (at a much higher price) a couple of years ago, I recently bought some more screens from the vendor your are looking at.

I don't know if the screens on EBay are true Pixel Qi, or not, but, I didn't do my homework in that while they may be 10.1", the ratio of 1200 x 800 is not the same as 1024 x 600, and won't fit in the N150 case, they are too wide and short. Check out pixelqi.com for the screen specs on the products page, I'm almost certain you want the PQ3Qi-01, 1024 x 600 resolution

Unfortunately, the Pixel Qi screens are no longer manufactured, and you will have a very hard time finding the displays. Unless someone buys Pixel Qi / licenses its technology, or someone pays to make a batch of screens, there are no more being produced.

I bought about 20 screens (1024 x 600) just to have in stock, because there is nothing else out there like it at the moment. We don't need a lot of computing horsepower for our data logging, we just need to be able to see the screens outside, so having it in an older netbook is not a problem. As I said, the Pixel Qi is awesome direct sunlight, sad that they never got picked up and went mainstream.

*******pasted from elsewhere************

Just a small summary of all already tested Notebooks / Netbooks which work or don't work out of the box with the Pixel Qi screen:

Fully Compatible with permanent backlight deactivation by hotkey:

- HP 2132-2133-2140 (5 hours with 6 cell)
- Samsung N135 (6 hours Battery Time)
- Samsung NB30 (10 hours with 6 cell)

In posts described as working with minor issues like backlight deactivation switch:
- Acer Aspire One (exact version unknownl, general 9 hours with 9 cell)
- Dell mini 10v (5 hours with 6 cell), backlight cant be completely disabled by ma_or

- Samsung NC10 (30 Pin Connector)
- Samsung N230 (screen lid too thin, cable is too short) by shleepy

Thanks

I did not notice the different aspect ratio of the 10.1" screen.

The screen I need is really the PQ3Qi-01, 1024 x 600 resolution.

There is a video on youtube fitting the Pixel Qi on a Samsung N150.

Is there any way one could connect the PQ101WX01 PQ3Qi-01 1280*800 as an external monitor with a special controller?

I'll ask this guy on ebay to see if he has such a controller.

By the way would you be willing to sell one of those PQ3Qi-01, 1024 x 600 resolution?

Hi,

If you find out the board he manufactures will drive the 1280 x 800 screens, let me know, since I still have 4 or 5 of them sitting on the shelf.

Yes, if you wanted one of the 1024 x 600 screens I would be willing to sell you one, but the price I paid was significantly more than that Ebay auction is showing. Plus I would probably need to add something for packaging, since I received a lot of 20, and don't have anything handy for shipping a single panel.

Let me know, I'm heading out of town for two weeks for work, so it wouldn't be until I get back. If you want to reply with your email, I'll send you my contact information.

Just too bad that these screens never took off.

I think os-store is fraud. I have a new a+ 1280x800 pixel qi screen from his website. It was scratched. I have connected it with a cheap lcd controller board using 40 pin 1ch 6bit lvds cable. I am able to watch video but i can't turn backlight off and operate it in reflective mode.
I have lvds_screen, lvds_board, inverter_board and lvds_cable. lvds_cble is connected to lvds_screen on one side and to lvds_board and inverter_board on other side. BLO (Back-Light ON/OFF Control for Panel) pin on inverter_board is not connected and yet I am able to control brightness. Ain't that strange?
lvds_cable connects LED_EN (LED Enable Input Level) and ADJ (LED Dimming Input Level) from screen to ADJ on inverter_board.
If I disconnect lvds_cable from inverter_board , I see nothing. If I only connect LED_EN (LED Enable Input Level) and ADJ (LED Dimming Input Level) from screen to ADJ on inverter_board, its backlit and color. If I seperate ADJ and LED_EN and connect them to ADJ and BLO (Back-Light ON/OFF Control for Panel) respectively on inverter_board, I see nothing. If I connect LED_EN and ADJ to BLO, nothing.
Now I am thinking of making my own pixel qi screen from stock lcd. Interesting video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uDz7RSnpOo ;)
You can buy lower resolution and expensive pixel qi screen with board here: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1303
greetings

He also has 2 negative feedbacks on his ebay store complaining that it was normal lcd screen.
I am thinking of experimenting with mirror foil or white paper using screen as shown in video. What do you guys think?

Hi Mark ( and EpicStory),
Anyone willing to sell a PQ101WX01 1280*800 display screen?
Will it fit a slim 10.1 inch Asus F102B 10.1 inch netbook?
I believe it has a 40 pin connector and I have an extension cable if it is on the wrong side, which I think it may be.
The resolution is different at 1366*768 but I have been assured that it won't matter.
I do have the PQ3Qi-01 but I think it is too thick.
It has been said that the PQ101WX01 is a different shape from the standard 10.1 inch display.
Is that correct?
Thanks if you can throw some light on this.
