I posted about this upgrade I did here

Thought I would also share some results from testing some of my virtual machines (I use VirtualBox on this machine).

Prior to migration to the SSD array, these VMs ran on a single WD 1TB FAEX drive which, aside from storing ISOs and misc application installers, serves as the host drive for my VMs (most of them now, anyways). This drive is not part of the OS setup so the only reads and writes happening on it are probably 95% VM crap. This test of CDM was done with only this one VM running and nothing really happening on the host.

This VM runs Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Ed. with SQL Server 2008 R2 Dev. Ed.
2 cores with 4GB RAM.

Sequential Read : 106.823 MB/s
Sequential Write : 94.782 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 43.656 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 61.995 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 0.627 MB/s [ 153.0 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 1.027 MB/s [ 250.7 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 1.581 MB/s [ 385.9 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 1.072 MB/s [ 261.8 IOPS]
Test : 1000 MB [C: 34.2% (17.1/49.9 GB)] (x5)

:( this makes SQL sad

After migration to SSD (which is also my OS drive):

Sequential Read : 937.484 MB/s
Sequential Write : 635.597 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 433.990 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 626.847 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 14.607 MB/s [ 3566.2 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 35.342 MB/s [ 8628.5 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 54.481 MB/s [ 13301.1 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 47.549 MB/s [ 11608.7 IOPS]

Aaaaaand here's the results from Server 2012 VM running SQL Server 2012. I neglected to take a "before" so here's the "after". Also 2 cores with 4GB RAM.

Sequential Read : 757.313 MB/s
Sequential Write : 498.689 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 437.924 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 465.762 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 15.284 MB/s [ 3731.5 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 39.507 MB/s [ 9645.3 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 69.374 MB/s [ 16937.0 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 46.806 MB/s [ 11427.2 IOPS]

Holy amazeballs! Well worth it to get these two VMs up to speed since I was tired of waiting on them.
