I am in works of upgrading my video card (have a 7770 lol), looking to get a used card right now and in the future I will upgrade my monitor as well.
Is sync(free sync, g-sync) really that good?

I've been searching displays the freesync displays are so much cheaper than gsync, is this always the case?

It feels like any savings on a used card on the nvidia side will just force me to buy a really expensive monitor down the line and negating the savings benefits.

On a budget should I just AIM to get an AMD card then and just go to free sync? cuz those 1060 cards are so tempting right now lol

CES is next month and AMD has a lot of stuff coming out. If you are on the fence about buying anything I would wait and see what is coming out. I'm sure Nvidia will have something also.
 
Yeah, Free/G-Sync is worth it.

If you are on a budget, AMD is a better choice but definitely wait for CES because AMD is rumored to announce some new cards and that can change the landscape.
 
Yeah rumor is Nvidia may have a new g-sync chip also. Right now most monitors that support it are 200 ~ 300 dollars more than a free-sync monitor. Nvidia's lost so much money lately they are going to have to do something drastic to keep ahead of AMD.
 
Those new cards will be out of my budget.
I am talking used market. Actually thinking about a 970 now instead of a 1060. Im on a tight budget.
So lets say I get a 970 and go ahead a buy a 75 Hz monitor with free sync. can I still use the 75Hz display, just without the active sync right? or will i still be limited to 60hz?
 
Yeah, you can still use 75Hz with any card.

However, I'd really recommend AMD if you're getting a Free-Sync monitor.

The RX 570 used would be a good choice here. It's a little better than a GTX 970 and around the same price.
