It seems my predecessor decided to prevent users from installing software using GPE on our W2K domain controller. This hasn't been a problem with the W98 systems I'm replacing, but with XP it is apparently preventing some software from running correctly unless I log in as admin.

Problem is, I can't seem to find where to fix this in GPE or AD.

Some help here?
 
Wait, so you have two problems?
1) Not able to install software on the dc
2) not able to run software as limited users

Is that right?
 
Are you sure it's not just the fact that the domain user accounts are not members of the local admin group?
 
some programs require that you be a power user or local admin to run certain programs, i would take an account and mess around with it to see if you can make it work right, there may be something in GP that prevents it but it will be tommorow night before i can check, a bud is usin my server sorry....
 
Well, I was able to resolve the problem by giving users full rights to local HDDs. A particular app wouldn't complete its installation under admin, and was trying to write/mod files when the user launched it; Windows was refusing. It took four support people at that company to tell me that.
