i love the look of EK acrylic top blocks, but how often (do they) crack?
would it be better going for metal tops?
cheers

Any block where the acrylic is used to hold the block down (TDX comes to mind) has the tendency to crack.

oh :( so best go for acetial or what ever its called :)
apart from the ek mofset set is acrylic only :(

Acetal is acrylic. Delrin is the only type I'd choose.

Now, most EK blocks HAVE acrylic but the hold-down is metal... So... Mind linking to the blocks you're thinking about?

Which lets out most of the acrylic blocks from the top water cooling companies. :p

Yeah, I know. Unfortunately enough.

Now, this risk is only a RISK, however minute it is. I ran a TDX for 2 years without a problem. Things eventually fail though.

It's not definite loop-death if you use acrylic, obviously.

So far Silverstone, ThermalTake, and some other low end companies ARE associated with these kinds of cracks though. So pay attention to what you are buying and caveat emptor!

I take back what I said. Those are the kind that will crack. The screws go through the acrylic that hold down to the motherboard.

The NB block will probably crack. The VR cooler is a wobbler.

:(
so shall i try get the metal top-blocks?
its a bit more, but will it really save me?

yeah, but you lose the look :(

How about a G 1/4 Cuplex XT? (note: This pic is for a G 1/8)
