Is common that an active DVI-minidislpayport adapter suddenly do not work anymore after 2 years of use?

aka: you've given us just about no information.

having said that: electronics fail, it's not outside the realm of possibilities for stuff to fail after two years.
 
For a single person, it does not matter what is common, it matters what is possible.

A device failing is well within the possible.
