Activation and moving VMs?

Let's say that I create an XP VM on a Win7 machine. I then move the XP VM to another Win7 machine with significantly different hardware but I don't change the number of cores or amount of memory it is assigned. Will XP complain about requiring activation or is the hardware abstracted? If it isn't abstracted I see the use of something like VM Server. ;)

depends on your virtualization platform, and options configured for the guest VM. using paravirtualization options will expose the underlying CPU architecture to the VM. This could be significantly different on the new machine, and cause you to have to re-activate. but like I said, without knowing your platform, and configured options, it's anyone's guess.

I'm using VMWare Workstation 7 to create the VM. I'll look into these "paravirtualization" options. Thanks.
