acrylic sheets

I dont know about how cheap they are compared to other sources... but I picked up a sheet at Lowe's today for about 22 bucks... I think it was 32x36 inches.

go to all the local sign shops around you and ask if they have any scrap that the will give you.. we throw a ton of it away..

^ True.

I found my black acrylic sheets on Ebay. Try a search for a user named frigodesign .
They also sell stainless steel sheets, copper tiles, wood parts and more... A nice source for modders. :D I don't really shop this kind of material quite often, so I can't say if they're reeeeaaaaly cheap, but they're far from overpriced from what I saw from other sellers.

Lowe's gave me a bunch of scrap for free, ymmv.
how do you get free scraps?... is there some policy or a certain place to go like some bin or something?

Well, I went to Lowe's to get a 14 x 14 piece cut, and as the guy handed it to me when he was done, I noticed the bin that he threw the excess into had some decent chuncks in it. He said that was just where the scrap went, I asked how much, he said "Hell, it's just scrap, take the parts ya want for nothin', just tell 'em at the counter." Poof, decent free plastic!

Tap plastics and US plastics are good but first check at local places like Home depot and Lowes and such.

yellow pages, let your fingers do the walking

I sure hope you mean the online yellow pages! Why anyone would flip through a huge phone book when you got a resource like this is beyond me!
