Acquired a new machine (Intel SPSH4)

Since I am fairly new to the Distributed computing crowd and haven't been active lately. I was wondering if this new machine that I got from my father would be of any use.

It is an Intel SPSH4 the specs are below.

4x Intel Xeon (Dual Core) 2.2Ghz 512k 2MB Cache.
4x 1GB of PC2100
2x 15k Seagate Cheetah 26.6 GB
3x 600 Watt power supplies.

I'd really like to start contributing to the DC crowd again, but if this machine would be of no use then I will sell it and build a new machine that doesn't have 3 600 watt power supplies :p

I new CPU would get more points, an i5 would probably get more points, a i7 definitely would.

Thats a 2003 server so you would be better off getting a new more powerful, less electric hungry system if you can afford to buy one.
 
If your house is cold then go for it otherwise a new budget rig would blow it away.
 
not only if your house is cold, but also if it's too quiet. also, you are going to be using so many W for so little ppd.
 
If you wanted to test it out we'd be glad to have you join us on the WCG side.
 
As AgrFan said, the Commandos would gladly help you burn that in. WCG badges would be easy to grab since you have multiple cores. Just install BOINC http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php and choose what projects you want to support.

I recommend adding FreeHAL and WUProp to whatever you choose to support since they are non-cpu intensive and can basically run alongside everything else. (think free points) We also have a thread over here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1620596 where we discuss most things BOINC related to our team. Take note though that depending on what project you support we have 2 possible team names. Let us know what project and we will clarify which one to use. (yeah its kinda annoying like that)
 
The point is, it is not going to be efficient no matter what DC project you run. You will be better off selling it if you can and getting a more modern single processor system of some sort to contribute to the DC project of your choice.
