I was working on my second computer and I decided to just reformat it. There was some stuff on there I needed so I just made a small 20gb partition, transfered the data to it, and went ahead and reformatted the primary partition. I got back into windows and it was still there but...it LAGS like crazy when I try to access it and some of the folders are access denied or errors occuring but the rest are accessable...still slow though.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Access denied is just a windows file permission thing - its not about data integrity.

Did you do a thorough surface scan of the disk either using chkdsk or another utility? Try booting from BartPE and see if you can read the data - copy it back to your primary partition etc.

If you really have bad sectors on the disk, a scan will mark them but thats a sign your disk is going bad.

BartPE

Its a bootable windows disk like a livecd for linux. I just suggested it in case things were wrong with your windows install but it doesn't sound like thats the case.

I can't copy it back to my primary partition, still getting denied errors. The primary local drive is fine and all applications run just fine...but this damn partition is driving me nuts.

Are you using XP? Are the partitions formatted with NTFS? If so it sounds like a permission error on the files in the 20gb partition.

What you need to do is 'take ownership' as described here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421. Do this for all the files and try copying them.

If this doesn't help then post the specific error message.
