Acer Predator x34 vs ASUS PG348Q

I'm in the process of selling my triple monitor setup which consists of an ACER XB270HU flanked by 2 BenQ XL2430T so I can replace it with either the x34 or the PG348Q. Going with a single ultra wide looks much cleaner and saves tons of desk space.

I'm assuming that both of those ultra wides use the same panel and aren't natively 100hz and you have to OC them to that, is there any difference between these two that I should consider when deciding? I've read that some people can't get their x34 to 100hz but the PG does the OC fine to 100hz.

I know ASUS has abysmal customer service, I'm not familiar with Acer since I bought my XB270HU through amazon and just sent back as many panels as I wanted until I found a good one.

I'd like to hear some opinions from anyone who owns or have tried both of the monitors before I make a final decision. I'm going to wait until I can get rid of my old setup before I actually buy the new one due to space.

Pretty sure they are just the same thing. You could wait a little and grab the native 100hz ones coming out later this year, they're expected in Q4.
Acer and Asus probably have both equally bad customer support. I wouldn't count on either of them being great.

The Asus can swivel left and right, but the current modal of the Acer doesn't. The upcoming Acer X34p will be able to swivel. That's about it other than aesthetics.

I have the Asus right now and it overclocked to 100hz no problem, push of a button. Acer should do the same, could just return it if it doesn't so may want to go with a local store for that reason. Both have issues with black light bleed, but it doesn't bother me too much. Supposedly the new models will do a better job preventing it. The new models will also have a more pronounced curve. I'm thinking of returning my Asus and waiting for new models and buying them or re-buying a current model at a lower price when the new ones come out.

For the record, they look awesome. Great monitors.

It works fine at 100hz. "Over clocking" is kind of a stupid term since you are only pushing a couple of buttons in the OSD to select 100hz. It's not like you actually need any computer know how to do it.

no issues with IPS glow or BLB whichever term you prefer. Just set the brightness to a reasonable level (mine is 48%) for gaming and it looks fantastic. Best monitor I've ever had and I buy pretty expensive stuff (see SIG)

I have the same experience with my X34. No issues at all. It's one of the best purchases I've made this year.

Thanks for the responses. Seeing that its a little over midway through the year, would it be smart to just hold off until the x34p? Is the 100hz native really worth the wait since the one we have now can do 100hz regardless?

The "standard" (ie original X34) can do 100HZ just fine. There are only a few examples of users complaining their screen only hits 95hz.

The big difference between the X34p and the original X34 is the diameter of the curve. The new X34p has a pretty significant tighter curve. (and the stand swivels and tilts where as the original X34 only tilts). It's a new panel.

How users respond to the new curve is of course up in the air at this point.

But if you are worried about the original X34 hitting 100hz vs 95hz, you shouldn't sweat that.

Thanks for the info, I just like to have the newest things for whatever I'm going to buy. I'd hate the feeling I'd have when I buy the original x34 and then the x34p comes out, stuff like that just drives me crazy. I'm still sitting on my old setup so I have plenty of time to decide.

Is 100+hz in the near future out of the question? or is 100/120hz going to be the norm for a while for the 34'' ultrawides?

I kind of wanted to dig this one up from the grave because there's been no recent announcements regarding refreshes for either of these models and I'm really itching to upgrade my gaming setup. All I've heard is a possible 2017 release date for a X34P, but who knows when that'll be. There's only a $100 difference between the two on Amazon at the moment.

So anyone have any new thoughts? Pull the trigger, or wait? And which one if I do?
