Got a P244W Bii for a pretty cheap price a month ago, finally got around to buying a HDMI-DVI converter, unpeeled the plastic wrapping on the LCD and the front panel OSD suddenly stopped working. No lights. Power button still works.

W T F?

sounds like you got unlucky.

i love how people immediately assume that a certain brand is generally a bad brand based on their SINGLE bad experience (e.g. someone buys an LG monitor from Best Buy. They take it home and set it up. The next day, the monitor dies. They write a review on newegg/bestbuy.com that states "blah blah blah worked perfectly fine, died the next day. Never going to buy an LG monitor ever again!"

just because your ACER display died after you peeled the plastic wrap off doesn't mean that ACER displays are "chit"; it just means that YOUR acer display was bad.

generally, electronics are very unreliable because they're electronics. circuit boards and microchips are very sensitive and even the slightest electrostatic discharge can cause damage to such products.

this isn't anything personal towards you, it's just a trend i've noticed a lot and i'm ranting basically.

Except I'm not the only one with ACER problems.

I bought it because there was a huge sale going on, obviously we all know why it's selling for so cheap now.

because they are old models they want to get out of stock?
because Acer wanted to have sale to sell more monitors?

why are they selling them for so cheap... OH thats right because YOU got a bad LCD

google for any company and you will see good and bad problems, so i guess every company is "chit"

also , WTF is "chit"?

Yeah, you aren't the only one with ACER problems. This STILL doesn't mean that ACER monitors are generally bad. People have all sorts of crazy problems with LG, Samsung, Asus, etc. Electronics are generally UNRELIABLE. You and all of those people got UNLUCKY! That's it! The probability of getting a faulty monitor is, let's say for the sake of argument, 1/100. 99 people got good monitors and you got the 1 bad monitor out of the bunch! Sorry!

To make my point clearer, check out the reviews for the Acer H233H bmid on Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16824009162). It has no reviews that are less than 3/5. The SINGLE review that is 3/5 was amended by the user after he posted a new review which was rated a 4/5. All of the other reviews (59) are 5/5. The H213H won the 1x customer choice award. It has over 313 reviews. 2 Acer monitors which are doing pretty well it seems. This also doesn't mean that Acer is generally good; it just means that these two models which Acer produces are pretty good.

Either that model is generally bad or the single monitor that you received was faulty (a lemon). This does not mean that Acer is generally bad.

Also, products usually go on sale/clearance because a.) they are older models that are being discontinued to make way for newer, "flashier" models or b.) the demand is lower/the supply is higher for that specific model

Ehh the pallet may have fallen off the truck or something, happens to all of us eventually, sucks.

Contact Acer about a replacement.

Better luck on your next one.

My P244W was manufactured in AUG 2008. Released in JUNE 08 or something.

They have no drivers or downloads on the ACER site.

A lot of people who bought the same monitor as me in the same month have problems as well. They are only finding out now, 2-5 weeks later which makes the in-store warranty useless. Even reviews @ Newegg for this monitor show people having similar problems with the power, touch panel, etc. Acer may not be chit, but their warranty / RMA is FROM WHAT I HEAR. A pain and a bitch to return.

I learned my lesson. I'll stick to Viewsonic, Samsung, or DELL from now on. At least they have better support.

eh... Acer sells cheap because they are a value brand. Every electronic company has duds.. you got a dud. My spare computer uses a 2 year old Acer display and the LCD still works fine, but yet my friend bought a $300 samsung lcd and it went out after a month. Does that mean Samsung is bad? Nah... its just part of owning electronics. :)

and btw... people are more likely to post about BAD experiences than good experiences online

also, you should always research a product thoroughly before purchasing it. read reviews from all websites (not just newegg) to get a good idea of common issues and limitations of a product. if you can help it, buy it in a retail store where returning it is much easier and more efficient.

As someone in retail... I agree, we sold 47 acer displays and 31 samsungs for last month... Returns for not working are 4 for the acer and 3 for the samsung. It happens... Simple reason for more negative experience, acers sell more number of units cause their lower price points.
