Acer AL1916WA Issues

A friend is using an Acer AL1916WA LCD display on a Mac G5 tower, and is having some issues with it. When running at the suggested resolution of 1440x900, there are some unusual artifacts displayed on seemingly random images (the artifacts look like tiny twinkling stars) as well as odd scan lines that are off colours or occasionally flash. Most of the other resolutions have no problems at all (I tried using 1400x1050, which seemed better, but after a few minutes there was a warning which said something to the effect of "invalid input").

I noticed that the monitor uses a DVI-D cable, while the video card on the machine uses DVI-I. Would this cause the described issues? Acer doesn't seem to have any Mac drivers on their website either... Could the monitor just have issues with Macs? They are using Mac OS X. Any info on this would be great.
