Just wanted to post my one week old acd 30 inch has the pixel problem that i have followed in the apple forums thread.
Basicly on any photograph i display on the screen there is a series of white pixels...some which flash on and off.....Im talking HUNDREDS of pixels not just a few...so pissed.....they even appear in the start menu.....have to decide if i want to return or call support.......i will keep you posted.
 
well the workaround seems to be, to drop your refresh rate.....hmmm.....a 2400 hundred dollar monitor shouldnt need a workaround.
 
Mine has never had this problem. I'd get it replaced.

No, it's a setting problem, not a defect. The refresh vertical freq. is wrong, on the video card.
 
the funny thing is the guy i spoke with at tech support claimed he never heard of the problem....i told him to look on the apple discussion forums..that there were hundreds of posts about it. We did change the refresh rate, and the pixels are gone....he said if they return i should replace the monitor.
 
What's the problem thought to be? Mine lists 59 Hz and 60 Hz, and it works fine at either. At what rate are people having problems?

happy, if its a vert freq. problem, how come if i change the refresh rate (by the way, that is the other method mentioned on the apple site) the problem is gone?...All i know is a change from 60 to 59 works.....for now!.....i didnt notice i had the problem till i changed my desktop to a photgraph, then the pixels were present.....also then i noticed any photo i would display on the screen would show the problem.
 
side note.....switch res x....the program they are using to fix the problem..is for macs...from what i can see.

A better question that we shoudl ask is: What's the acceptable vert. freq. that a human eye can accept w/o feeling eye strain?

I know w/ CRT, we must have 80Hz or above, and I know w/ LCD, it doesn't refresh, but still, is there a min. acceptable?

With LCDs 60Hz is more than enough as the LCD pixels don't change instantly but rather fade to the desired level. This was particularly true for LCDs in the 12ms+ range. With the new 3-4ms response rates I am not sure how applicable that is.

The higher refresh rates are mostly useful for reducing bluring & image smearing in fast action video/games and not exactly for eye strain.
 
I agree faster refresh rate is good for games.

But I am concern about the 59Hz vert. freq. Would that cause eyes strain because the apple is not 12 ms, it's only 16 ms.
