Acclaim was just a publisher. A lot of great games had that name on 'em, but they published some absolute trash too. I guess I'd welcome a throwback-style Wizards and Warriors game (since they own the name), but it would need to be made by a really good developer.

Acclaim was responsible for a lot of fun during my younger years, but I'm skeptical any traces of that excellence is going to return... have to prove it.

Blizzard was responsible for a lot of fun during my younger years, but we've seen what happens once the suits come in. Agreed 100%, will have to prove it.

Hold your horses, there is no need to "redefine fun" just make fun the point of games again.
RIght! Coming in this late to the 'game' you don't get to redefine fun, you might want to figure out what is fun first. I know its CEO marketing hype but still. They really are bringing nothing to the table other than an old name they were able to purchase.

They did run in-house studios towards the end (mostly through acquisitions of studios they were publishing for).

But this Acclaim is a totally new company that bought the name, and maybe some rights to old games. Whatever old Acclaim did right or wrong doesn't tell us what the new one will do.

Traditionally a publisher can have a lot of influence on games, when they choose too; for better and worse. I don't know what it's like now, finding a publisher is less needed for smaller games; but big games with big finances stil need them.

Turok had the coolest Acclaim animation and is what I always think of when I hear the name.

Given I've seen most of my favorite publishers and even developers from the 90s and 2000s go to shit, I have zero expectations of anyone standing Acclaim back up to garner interest based solely on nostalgia. I'm hopeful they'll do good things though, as with every other publisher.
