I'm really not in the mood to explain my stupidity so i wont... what happend is simple.. i formatted a ntfs partition of mine with tons of files and made it to fat 32.
I have some sort of recovery program (recover my files) but i dont know what is better. To run it now or to format the drive back to ntfs and run it then...

ne help would be appreciated

You are not alone. I made a similar misstake reformatting my harddrive and realized what I done 2 ms to late :p

If you do a quick format, doesn't it just erase the index and leave the actual files? Im not sure if that is true but if it is the case I would think that there would be a program that could search the drive and rebuild the index. Although I would think if you erased the index and had fragmented data you would read junk if you just read the disk streight through. I dont really know i dont know much about file systems.

As far as weather you should reformat to ntfs then run teh data recovery program, i would think the less you did to the drive after the fact the better. Try running the program before you change anything. I know this isn't much help, i was just wondering if the type of windows format mattered ( quick or full) and what was the difference between the two. Hopefully you did the lesser one and you will be able to get your files easier.

good luck with getting your data back. I'd be sad too if i lost one of my drives.

I tried numerous programmes but none was successful. You may be able to require some data but I wonder if it´s enough to let you boot as normal.

I've only had consistently good recoveries with OnTrack's EasyRecovery Pro

http://www.ontrack.com/freesoftware/

get the trial. It's free and will "list" all recoverable files. If it can see them, the full version will get them back. Depending on how much you value your data, you might want to pay. At least this free version will let you know if you have any hope.

Good luck bro

get data back works great.

google it.

The free version won't let you save files just view what it can save.
The pay version works like a big champ.
There are 2 versions though, a ntfs and a fat32 version.

$volume$ folder on my ntfs drive died
ontrack got everything back for me
very good program

Kinda off-topic, but I've done the same thing at a LAN before...typed in the drive letter to format in DOS and then realized that they all got renamed because i was in DOS and ended up formatting my Storage partition instead of the Install partition. Boy that sucked. A lot.
