accessing mySQL through C program in Linux

I'm trying to find a possible way to access a mySQL database through a Linux program written in C. I need to query and update records with this program.

Is there an easy way or am I SOL with that idea? I have done a bit of Google'ing but haven't been really successful with that. I just need a push in the right direction if you wish.

Any input is appreciated, thanks!
 
If you read the mySQL documentation, you'll find that it already has an API for C that allows you to access a database.

There is also an API guide for mySQL 5 and 5.1, but I wasn't sure which one you needed, so I just grabbed the 4.1 version, since that's the mySQL version I use.
 
Great, this seems to be what I am looking for. I guess I didn't search mySQL's website thoroughly enough.
