Access all resolutions?

I'd always known that for some reason windows doesn't always let you access all resolutions, but it's never been a problem until now. I want to use 1152X864, but I only have 1024X768 or 1280X1024, among the lower ones. I'm on 1280x now, but all my graphics suck on this monitor (Crappy compaq working pull), and even scrolling is choppy. How can I access 1152x864? Thanks.
 
Ugh, I set it to 1024x and it still gives me greif. I have a radeon 7000 (take me now) but it was fine before I activated Windows.
 
Well it's got to be the video drivers. I'm getting a new HDD soon, so I'm just going to reinstall windows then and be done with it.
 
display properties -> settings -> advanced -> monitor -> uncheck 'hide modes this monitor cannot display'
