Just looking for what kinds of temps I should be looking at for my 2.8E - Idle and load temps on air cooling Educated guesses are welcome. Thanks.

does 2.8E stand for the Duel core version or the Extreme version? cause my 2.8ghz LGA775 idles at 40 and load is around 54. never passed 55.

haha neither, the E means a socket 478 prescott. Those are going to tend to run pretty hot. Keep it under 70C load and you should be fine. A friend of mine has a 3.4E and it will bump 76C under full load.

Thanks people. I am getting about 48C Idle and about 58C-60C Load. I thought it would have been lower because of the heatsink I was using (Zalman CNPS7000B-ALCU). I also read places on the forum here that these Prescott chips can be little cookers. Thanks for the feedback and anymore is gladly welcomed. :)

man tahts hot with a 3rd party hs....i ahve that exact same chip and its OC'd a bit to 3.08..it idles around 47C (45 at night) and loads at 55C with stock hs/fan...i have 2 80mm fans in an antec lanboy case...but ur temps shud be fine :D

Anyone else think my temps might be somewhat high? If I have to I will clean and reseat the HSF. Lemme know. Thanks

Well the thermal grease must have kicked in cause now I get nothing over 55C under load. :D

This is what I am getting with a stock fan, although my idle is a few degrees cooler. My office is VERY warm because of all the computers running as well. Much higher than average ambient temps.
