i was wondering what an acceptable cpu temperature is for overcloking my athlon xp 2400+. as it is right now -no load 41c -load 46c are these temperatures okay? can i go higher? should i go lower?

those are probably ok, but could be better, my linux box has a 2700+ in it, not oc'd (stock cooler) it sits idle at 32c, have not checked load. Not sure what the max is for xp line of cpu;s but I personally would not want to go over 50ish C on load.

are u using stock cooling or something differnt? or planning to change

I have a barton 2500xp and mine idles around 40-41 usually also and will jump up to around 50 under load. I am using the stock hsf and stupid pad tho, i'm planning to replace it with an aftermarket fan until i can upgrade cpu later on.

honestly i wouldn't go over 50c because temp overload is 60 so 50 load is kind apushing it a lil. especially with other ambient things dunno im also ver OCD on my comp. i customized my case so i have a fan blowing in air right over the ram to cool them off which honestly contributes a lot to the cpu temps. i also have 2 intakes and 2 exhaust 80mm with a tornado volcano extreme running half speed. its not very quiet about <35 dba but i' havn't hit above 39.

thanks guys i was thinking high 40's was enough im just going to stay there, plus i just bought a 64 3000+ that should do me just nice and overclock well

My 2500+@2.0GHz Runs at 48C idle, 58C load - terrible air flow in my case. These chips can take a little heat.

Posting temps is meaningless. A) everyone's setup is different. B) everyone's ambient temp is different. C) everyone's boards, even IDENTICAL boards, will read the temps differently.

If your computer is stable, your temps are fine.
