Accelero X2 in a P180 ??

I am currently runnin two X1900's in crossfire and am in need of some cooling and quieting (is this a word ?) advice. I have a P180 case with Big Typhoon, specs are listed in sig.

Short of Watercooling what options do I have. Seems like all the VGA coolers will either blow are back into my case or onto the back of the board. My PCI slots are full by the way lol
unless I sell the thermaltake psu, eventhough I like it :( , but if I do then I have one free slot lol

I was thinking of the accelero X2 coolers with decent thermal paste for this situation. Any advice :confused:

am looking for people specifically with a P180 case.
 
You could try doing a lapjob. I am having heat issues with my X1900XT. It gets to near 85C on load. So I read a post by a guy who took off his X1900XT and discovered that the copper interface on the heatsink was very rough. He did a lapjob on it, and after that he didn't break 74C on peak, dropped like 10c off his idle and peak temperatures. Lower peak means less of a whine from the fans.

As far as I have read about the Accelero x2, it is an odd cross between efficient cooler and POS design that leads all the exhaust air right onto your motherboard (morons, AC. Morons!)
 
My eyes hurt from all the reading I done. I didn't have a problem with my 1900xt. I cleaned it and used as5 and it was fine. I added a crossfire card and I get kicked off of games due to ATI's Thermal protection thing :eek: sooo am like dayum nothing else runs hot in this case. Case temps avg 26c-30c when its hot out and the ac isnt on. Think I'll add some as5 to the master card tonite and adjust the fan settings to 50%.. it will be a hairdryer but eh.
 
Hey, man. I put Accelero X2s and AS5 on my cards. What I did was drill a hole right above the cards on the left side of the case (P180, yes) and place the thick adjustable 120mm fan that comes with it on there.

My cards used to be 83*c load now they are 55*C! If you are skilled, it doesn't need to look weird. I used a hammer and a dremel to carve out the hole. It was the best thing I've even done for cooling :)

Some day I'll get around to taking a pic but I don't have a digicamera.
 
I opted to stick with the stock heat sinks for now but I used as5 on my slave card and adjusted the fan speeds in ati tool. Made a helluva diff. So I will do the same to the master card. Dont mind the noise since my tower is on the floor tucked behind my desk.

Plus am a clutz and dont trust myself drilling in my own case

If you don't use the upper hard drive tray you can mount a 120mm fan right behind the cards to blow directly on them. I have seen a few do that with great luck. I even tested in my P180b, but I really don't have a heat issue and I have an IDE HDD I still want to use that fits better in the upper cage do to power cables. So I moved that fan to the front of the case behind the IDE HDD instead.
 
When i replace my mobo I plan on cleaning up the interior :rolleyes: so I may then install the fan just to see.. why do these cards run so hot grr
 
I'd also watch that Typhoon in the P180 case. I was looking at getting the typhoon in mine, but then realized the p180 has no vent on the side for it. i ended up going with a zalman 9500 that blows the hot air straight towards the back 120mm fan. With no side vent, the typhoon blows hot air all over the case sorta...
 
the typhoon is pretty good actually but was looking at a diff hsf because my pwm temps were insane.

Right noow am running 280fsb and under full load the hottest readout was 55c after 3hrsa of FEAR :/
At 300fsb my temps would rise by about 10-12c
