I recently installed an Accelero Extreme on my reference 7970, which went pretty smoothly. The temps looked fine, and I left it as it was. However, I noticed the temperatures got higher about a week or so later. I realized this when the PC would shut down during gaming quickly.
I took the card out and noticed one of the screws were loose on the backplate. I tightened all of the screws and put it back in. However, it would only show that it was in ``power saving mode`` on the monitors. I loosened the screws but to the same result.
To be sure, I put in an old 8500gt, which worked fine and displayed on the monitor I tried. This makes me a little unsure of what could have happened to the 7970. Could there have been damage while tightening the screws? I took off the heatsink and reattached it to be certain, which did nothing.
