I'll probably end up trying several of the 4x.xx ones myself, but does anyone have any recommendations to give? Are there ones that are known to give the best performance or others that are known to be incompatible with certain things so need to be avoided?

ive been fine with the 56's (made more for the fx but been fine with my gf4) but if you want performance, try the omega's :)

I would stick to the 45 series of drivers. I never really noticed any performance increase with my old Ti4200 after the 45.23's. I've heard from a few people that they actually got performance increases from the 56.xx drivers, but I cannot confirm that personally.

With my ti4400 i tested all the I think 38.xx-53.xx drivers i could find but the best ones not overclocked were the 47.xx while overclocking i got the best out of 45.72. The differences between the 47.xx and the 45.xx was neglible though.

44.03's are the overall best.
the 40.41 give the absolute best preformance (got a 3dmark01 record for my processor class), but the image quality isint the best.
