Hello there, just wanted to toss up my work in progress log. I decided to dip into water-cooling since I got a great deal on a kit, but sadly my Lian-li A05b just wasn't up for the job without some major modding to get the airflow I wanted.

Sooo I am transferring some stuff over to my new ABS Black Pearl that I got for $104 shipped after taxes and what not.

Anyways, on to the pics, and I will apologize for the crappy pictures and horrible lighting in my room. ;)



First thing first, I was sooo excited that she got delivered that I stripped her down right away :D:

Here's my old rig, temps were horrible with the radiator mounted on top, so I took it out and dropped temps around 13c. ( 71 load now with my overclocked i7 920 ).

Some new parts, yate-loon high-speeds, Swiftech MCR320, XSPC reservoir, 20ft maskateer 7/16" tubing, and a Lian-li EX34N cage ( yeah yeah this is a Lian-li V2000 at heart! )

I don't like the looks of this case with the side panel cut out so you can mount the radiator sideways. And I doubt I have the jigsaw skills to make a perfect factory looking cut :D, so I am mounting the radiator on the mid-panel where imperfection is more forgiving.


Here are the cuts I've made with a radgrillz mounted on it. Threw some Petra's C-strips on there just to see how it looks like before I paint.

Cut in the back for cable management, easily sliced through it with a jigsaw.

Filling in the mounting holes I won't be using, not quite flat enough yet so I am leaving a second layer overnight and sanding in the morning, using 320grit sandpaper.

Working with aluminum scratches soooooo easily, so I am going to be priming the inside tomorrow and hopefully getting everything flat black if I have the time.

Any feedback/suggestions/tips are appreciated as this is a work in progress.
 
Had the day off from school today so time to prime it. Weather gets very windy later in the day for some reason so I am trying to get the primer layer topped off and dried.

Nice! Cant wait to see what it will look like I like the look of the case too! Where did you buy from? How do you think the airflow for an aircooled case? I noticed that the case has different side windows, how come?

Airflow should be good for aircooling, not great but good. The cpu will get direct airflow, and you can have the two exhaust up top to get rid of the air pocket.

The side panel window is a mesh grill instead of an acrylic window, I ordered from chiefvalue where they specifically advertised the acrylic and now the mesh. I contacted chiefvalue and they contacted ABS. They offered me $20 store credit or wait a few weeks for the window sent directly to me. Window should be here anyday now, but I am in no hurry.

I got everything painted flat black now, just waiting for them to dry and I'll toss everything together for pics :)
 
Sigh, my photographing skills blows haha not to mention the crappy cam :)

Anyways here is the system riveted back together, the $5 Harbor freight rivet gun works wonderfully, along with the countersunk 1/8" rivets from mcmasters.

Do you think its better if you open the psu area to the mobo area? No more on chiefvalue! =// I'm just wondering. What else can you do to mod the case for better airflow? How many fans do you think you can put in this case?

Aww nice to know. Why do you think the case has good airflow but not great? Is there a way to make it great you think?
 
Wow! That looks awesome. Putting the rad on the mid panel looks like a great idea. I'm pissed that I missed out on this deal when newegg had it on sale.
 
Interested in updates/progress also. I'm contemplating hard on getting the same case... Lol.
