??? about video cards

I'm not really up to par on video cards and had a question. What do the "SE", "Pro", "LE", "FX", "GT", etc., designations mean? Is one just a "lower" version of the next. Like 9600 SE compared to 9600 Pro.

yes they are just different designations for the cards. its mainyl clock speed on the GPU and RAM, and some will have less pixel pipes enabled, which makes them slower and ultimately cheaper in the end.

in general, the lower end cards are designated with

SE for Ati
LE for nVidia

then, cards without a designation are next up the ladder

e.g. 9600, 6800, 5900, ect

Then cards with Pro (Ati) or GT(nVidia) are high end, but not ultra high end

e.g. 9800 Pro, X800pro, 6800GT, 6600GT

and finally, the ultra high end cards are designated with XT (Ati) and Ultra (nVidia)

e.g. 6800 Ultra X800XT (and Ultra EE for Extreme Edition and XT PE for Platinum Edition)

theres one you forgot but most likley wont see and thats 6800UE,ultra extreme they dont sell these cards,if they do not to the public but they were refrence samples that came out when the other 6800 refrences samples went around only differnce was 50mhz+ on the core mabey some added voltage to it to

never seen ultra extreme "edition"
