All i can say is i've never seen a case like that it looks really cool in design and looks like it would give out good temps by the layout, is that a popular case?
 
Quiet is completely subjective. Your quiet is not necessarily my quiet. In any case, I dont own the twice7, but I do own one of the full size U2-UFO cases and it's about as quiet as 32db 120mm fans are going to be. Under my desk in my computer lab at home I hear it like a normal computer, no louder due to the 5-120mm fans or 7-80mm fans. I tell you one thing though, adding fan grills made the computer louder. I can't say that the noise was annoying, it all depends on the fans you decide to use. Quieter fans will make less noise, as simple as that...
 
I saw a pic of a mountain mod case on this forum and the paint quality was one of the worst I've seen.
 
Paint quality??? The case is anodized... I think you are mistaken... Not that you even have to get the case in a color. I went for the aluminum look, non treated (besides sealant to prevent oxidizing)...

If you go back through the post pics of your rig thread a member bought a black one that had the most pathetic paint job I have seen yet. It was ridiculous.

I will look and post if I find it. Not that its a big deal but I am definitely not mistaken.

Edit: I found it. For the price I would expect an "orange peel" free paint job. Honest to god i could do better with black laquer spray and some clear laquer. Of course if its not painted there should be no problem. I did also hear that they were rather flimsy and a mother to work with. I can point you to a thread where the user said as much. I am NOT shitting on anyones parade but am wondering if you have ever seen one in person?

I always assumed stuff that expensive doesn't get painted in the middle of the Sahara, during a sandstorm,while a camel is laying on top of the thing they are painting,

If you look on the mountainmods web site linked to at the start of the thread, you will see that the case they are selling has been powder coated. The pic you posted was someones crappy attempt to cover up the color of powder coating that they bought and were not happy with. BTW, that person did a shitty job painting, I have seen a few mountainmods cases and they all looked awesome. If I had the room for one, I would probably buy one.

The paint is black powder coat, and I believe the orange peel is part of it. They typically do that to make it more rugged. Its a standard paint with light texture. It may look like shit in the pictures, but I did not have any complaints at the LAN these were taken at. I personally prefer it to totally flat, adds some depth to it when it reflects things around it.!

I owned a mountain mods case. Its in their customer section, page 3 I think blue and gold. And yes for $350 dollars the welding is shotty, the case isn't one piece, the sides are welded to the top in 2 corners and to the bottom in 2 corners. Yes I see you added the extra 10 screws to the already 14 that the case comes with for the sides. I don't consider having to remove 24 screws just to get in a case "easy to work with". It also doesn't matter how many screws you add. The windows are connected at only a few spots, and the aluminum is extremely thin and warps and bends way to easy. In fact you HAVE to bend it to get the 3 sided cover on or off (of course after you remove your 24 screws). I guess thats why you have the sides cut apart from each other, so you only have to remove 8 screws at a time, but that still limits a user to "digging" through the case.

I don't know what happened with that black UFO but every review I have read has said the case looks fantastic. I have a black UFO coming this Tuesday, I will post my impressions of the powder coat job then. As for the initial question regarding the twice7, the case will be as loud or as quiet as you want it to be. It all depends on the fans you use and what voltage you run them at.

I dont know ANY company that does'nt make a dud now and then. So its probably what happened. I mean if they constantly made crap they would go out of business, and they're not.

FedEx ground actually delivered it today, on a saturday! Just opened it up and it looks great. There are some very faint swirl/scratch marks on the top of the case but nothing really noticable unless you are actually looking for it. My only digital camera is a real junker so no pics for now.
 
truth is that you have to have one of these cases in your hands to be a judge of anything, reiterating the opinion of others isnt the same thing.

i have a twice7 and i speak from actual experiences with the case

fyi if you didnt know already, do your research, powder coating is just that, its powdered on, hence the orange peel.

copy and pasting parts of a story doesnt make a complete story either.

almost seems like you have a grudge against mountainmods.
 
Most of those pictures are taken with lighting that makes it really hard to see the paint quality (also for some reason the guy is really fond of taking corner shots at odd angles) but what I can see looks about the same as the above.

Semantics as far as I'm concerned. I think the finish looks like crap and the case doesn't look like it has very good construction either from what I've seen. Don't care if it's painted, powder coated, or dipped in the blood of virgins. It looks like crap.
 
You are entitled to your opinion.....as am I

I believe the finish is superb, and has a number of advantages over a painted case. Powder coating is very hard which makes it less susceptible to scratches and chips.

Ya that orange peel is typical powdercoating stuff. It doesn't look nearly as bad in other colors but black shows it well. However it'd be a million times cooler if they polished the metal and then did a transparent powdercoat on it. It might cost more but the finish would be sweet.
 
I'll stick with my anodized aluminum thanks. Although that transparent powdercoat sounds interesting.

From what Qtip says it sounds like it's not the best idea to be using black powdercoat if it always comes out like that?
 
My Twice7 looks beautiful. it is easy to work with but there are a few quirks, for instance i would much prefer being able to remove individual panels rather than the top and side panels at once.

My Seasonic S12 didn't line up right with the holes for the power supply, only 2 screws fit. Of course my seasonic is a poor choice for a case with the PSU on the bottom anyway....

Access to the hard drive bay is a pain without removing the motherboard tray.

CD bay is excellent.

Motherboard tray is excellent.

Finish is excellent.

I'll have to send you pictures when I am done Qtip42. I am working on that exact very thing. I will have my MountainMods U2-UFO case on display at Quakecon 2005 for anyone who wants to take a look at the build quality. I will post pictures here after Quakecon is done.

I am working VERY hard on bringing my MountainMods to a near mirror finish. I can tell you it is A LOT OF WORK. Which is why I am glad I have the brushed finish. Over 150 hours of hand polishing (NO MACHINES USED) with sanding, wetsanding, rubbing compounds, microscopic metal removal, and sealants. Right now I have about 60% of the exterior done and the parts that are done look like chrome. You really start appreciating the large scale of this case when you have to hand sand the whole thing (including the interior in my case AND individual trays, mounts, and parts). I hope to have the exterior 100% done but I dont think with all the work I will get to finish 100% of the interior and trays. SO much work, but worth the awesome shine when you see it, especially lit up.

For those of you bashing on the "paint" job (powder coating) and build quality "issues" first consider this:
1. The powder coating finish only adds up to $50 dollars of the price. Quite a damn bargain if you ask me. Where does everyone get their Lian Li powder coated? That's what I was thinking...
2. You probably have never owned or seen one in person to really see what it looks like.
3. That powder coating will be there way past any other paint finish would be.
4. You dont have to get it powerder coated from then and can sand to your hearts content and have some professional paint or powder coat the case yourselves, JESUS... So hence it is a non-issue if you are worried about it.
5. That case has more space than you can shake a stick at and there arent many cases you can shove 5 computers (all with complete systems) into and still have more space. Trust me, I have 3 computers already in mine and will end up with 5 without issue. It fits in a U2-UFO (AND WATERCOOLED on the main rig)...
6. That first picture looks like ass without any supposed issues of paint "orange peel". I mean he put together a fairly hideous combination of red and black. And probably looks half decent when not over exposed in some crappy picture as well.

I'm done explaining anything to some people. Own one, and you will know. Mod one and you will believe. Don't believe me, you can go on owning substandard factory cases, or finally just build your own. For the money, they arent bad cases. A pleasure to work in and with.

Modify the mount. I did, and not only that, I modded my case to have multiple power supplies. Of which two of them are full sized 550W power supplies (of course mine is a U2-UFO, but you could mod the smaller version of course). One in the standard place at the bottom, and the other above the motherboard tray where they usually put a standard 80mm fan mount. Worked flawlessy and runs my both full sized motherboard computer systems in there. One AMD, and it's NAS system Intel. :) Serve me Intel processor, serve me fles, movies, music, and pron it says. :)
