This is the card I'm getting here , is it possible to mod this to an x800XT and if so does anyone have linky's? I'm also going to put this post in the overclocking forums, I'm unsure which forum this would belong under, so I'll just put it in both...

well, i don't know much about what can be modded to what, but i do know that you need the VIVO version of the X800 pro to get an X800 XT out of it, so i doubt you'll get an XT out of it. I could be completely wrong, but it makes sense to me. :p

No.

Only X800 Pro ViVo's mod to X800XTs. If you're going to drop that much on a card spend a tiny bit more and get a full-fledged X800 Pro or XT if the price is right.

The X800XTs (AGP) are normaly at MSRP or Under it now. I mean I found a X800XTPE under MSRP its oem but still.

Yeah I need AGP but that still doesn't answer the question...lol...Is there a noticible difference between the 9800xt and the X800se?

EDIT: I'm trying not to go over $330 in price I would like to go below if at all possible...This is for my best friend who just got home from Iraq...

The X800SE pwns any 9800XT. It's right in there with a 6800NU and faster than any 6600GT. $325 is way way overpriced for an X800SE considering that an X800XL (6800GT speed) has an MSRP of $300.

Edit: AFAIK, in AGP only and under $300, the 12 pipe 6800 vanilla (NU) for $250 is a hard value to beat. Some of these 6800NU cards can also mod to full fledged 16 pipe 6800GT / U cores (i think, correct if wrong please :p)

I havew no clue as to the performance between those two cards but if you want the best card go for a regular 6800 or maybe one of the 128meg 6800gt's. I know that the 6800's can be modded but it's still luck of the draw. According to this though, the x800se is faster than the 9800xt, but it is still slower than the regular 6800($240 @ newegg i think).

I am looking into doing the same thing, except with the x800Pro to XT-PE... but I am wondering if the VIVO editions of Sapphires can still do this? Or did ATi get smart and do something to end this for once and for all?

And if you bought a card RECENTLY that modded into a PE, I would like to know where you got it from so I can hit that batch too :)

Moo,
Just make sure that your ViVo card has 1.6ns Samsung ram, the Rage Theater Chip, and (of course) the ViVo capability. I've seen plenty of ViVo cards mod with the correct bios and flashing procedure. I think brand does not matter as long as the card possesses the afformentioned characteristics.

AFAIK, ATi hasn't changed the X800 Pro ViVo core... My X800 Pro didn't flash, but it wasn't on an XT / XT PE PCB either :(

Actually, I think this is a good question, in all likelyhood the SE will not flash, but I can't be sure. What makes the VIVO cards successful is not the fact that they have the rage theater chip, vivo connector, or the 1.6ns ram. Its the fact that on most of those cards, (which happen to have those features) ATI for some reason or the other, chose not to laser-cut the tiny bridge on the silicon. If the SE is based on the x800pro, (meaning that the bridge is cut), you will not be able to flash it, unfortunately, I don't know of anyone that has one of these that can remove the heatsink to tell for sure.

If you're dropping that much cash, better get a 6800NU, which outperforms a X800SE. You want to take a risk of turning it into a XT, when it won't period. But you wouldn't want to take a risk unlocking the 6800's extra pipes when it has a 80% success rate?
