if i put in a 2500+ mobile, would it work?
if i put in a 3200+ would it work?
gimme a range or something. thanks

the NF7-S supports all Socket A CPUs, so it would support all recent AMD 32-bit processors. That includes the 2500+ Mobile. However, the 3200+, 64-bit, is a Socket 754 chip, which the NF7-S doesn't support.

They should work fine. The NF7-S should support all speeds of DDR SDRAM without any problems unless you're overclocked.

I was going by what the website says, which is a maximum of 2 DIMMs of DDR400. Wouldn't that mean any stick you got that was above PC3200 would be underclocked down to 3200?

Yes it will be underclocked to 3200 i have giel pc 4000 that i can run at a like 3600 but anymore than that and the NF7-S starts to go out.

The website is incorrect. I am running 3 DIMMS of DDR400 on mine. 2 X 256, and 1 X 512, running Dual Channel.

Yep, the NF7-S page on the Abit website refers to Version 1.x of the NF7-S, which doesn't officially support 400MHz FSB Athlon XP CPU's due to its use of the original stepping of the nForce2 chipset. And when DDR400 memory is run asynchronous to the maximum officially supported 333MHz processor FSB, you can only use two of the three DIMM slots.

Version 2.x of the NF7-S uses the nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset, which officially supports 400MHz FSB Athlon XP CPU's. And since DDR400 memory is run synchronously with the actual FSB of such CPU's, you can officially put up to 3GB of DDR400 memory (albeit in single-channel mode), or up to 2GB in dual-channel mode.

You can't run dual channel, with 3 sticks of RAM.

You can if you setup with the two dual sticks, then reboot after you insert the third.

Have you tested this? It doesn't seem possible to me.

Dual channel is enabled in the NF7 by using 2 or more dimms and placing one in dimm slot3 and the other in any other dimm slot. Single Channel is active when dimms are in dimm slot1 and dimm slot2. To recap, slot1 and slot2 are one channel and slot3 is the other channel. Although not officially supported, many users successfully run dual channel with 3 dimms. A correct example on how to do this is to have two 256mb dimms in slot1 and slot2 and a 512mb dimm in slot3. Having the dimms closely matched as to manufacturer, speed and batch will increase your chances of running dual channel successfully.

Not sure if I'm understanding this correctly, but are you saying it turns slot1 and 2 into one channel, and slot3 into the other channel, making it dual channel? Interesting.

Zackly! Although you can sometimes get away with the sticks not matching (guess it could vary from board to board). I'm running 2 x 256 Geil Golden Dragon in slots 1 and 2, and 1 x 512 of Kingston Value RAM in slot 3, dual channel.
Interestingly though, I first tried running it at CAS 3 to match the Kingston, and it wouldn't even POST. Set it to 2.5 and it works finest kind.
