I got an Athlon 1.4 Ghz (tbird I believe) in my abit kg-7 raid mobo, and was wonder what my CPU upgrade options are. Officialy they are as follows:
- AMD Socket A Athlon (100/133MHz FSB) up to 1.4GHz
- AMD Socket A Duron (100MHz FSB) up to 1.3GHz
- AMD Socket A Athlon XP Palomino (0.18 micron process) up to 2100+
- AMD Socket A Athlon XP Thoroughbred (0.13 micron process) up to 2000+
But I am pretty certain that it can run higher. Can any one suggest me if I can actually run a socket A athlon better than 2100+ and how much better?

Thanks in advance.

I've seen people put Bartons in it...Might wanna make sure you have the latest BIOS for it tho...

IMO, it's not worth trying a Barton in that board, as it's only got a 4:2:1 PCI/AGP divider.. IE: at stock Barton FSB, you AGP would be 83 (spec 66), PCI @ 41.5 (spec 33) - your system may/may not be able to handle that.. Although, when I got my 1700+ for my current setup, I was able to hit 160x12.5x on a KG7-R (+ 512 Samsung ECC pc2100 / Rage 128pro AIW) no problem.

And then there's the super-lock issues to deal with. Unless you were able to get a non-locked one off a FS/T forum or something, you're stuck, and of course no multiplier o/cing for you. Then again, there is the Mobile Barton's, which are multi-unlocked, but may not even run in that board.. My suggestion: [update BIOS +] get a TBred B 2000+, Duron 1.6 (if it works), or try a Mobile if you're feeling lucky.

Thanks!
ABIT has release BIOS for KG7 and KT7A V1.3 to patch the CPU model name. If user did not upgrade to the latest bios, users can also manually set the suitable working frequency for AMD Athlon XP processors in SoftMenu BIOS. AMD Athlon XP Processors SoftMenu III Setup -> CPU Operating Speed ->User Define
With above setting users can use AMD Athlon XP processors flawlessly. The incorrect CPU information during POST can be fix via BIOS update.
From official FAQ.

Does this mean I can put in a 2400+ Thoroughbred even though the official limit is 2000+?

Thanks!

PS. I am not interested in overclocking or changing the FSB. This is enough exitment for me:)
