I just ordered one of these today for a total system rebuild. All the parts should be in on Wed and I'm trying to get everything ready to go.

Main Question: Will I need a SATA controller driver floppy so for a Vista x64 install? I'm going to assume you don't since I don't see a floppy in the parts pictures on Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127030). If I do need one, can I make a CD out of it that the Vista Install will see (Press F6 to load had drive controller drivers... )?

I tried to go read up on the Abit-USA forums but the forums seem to be down all this morning. ? Everything about Abit's website is slow or never loads.

Exactly what drivers do I need and where do I get them? The official one's on Abit's website look freaking old. The Intel Chipset drivers they list are from over a year ago! I tried looking on Intel's website, but couldn't figure out exactly where to go. For example, the pages I look at on Intel's website, don't even list "P35" as a chipset for drivers. ?

Thanks for any info or help. Totally new system installs stress me out for some reason.

If you are wondering about plain SATA, the OS will take care of that.....RAID will need separate drivers I believe.....but I don't use RAID so I wouldnt know. Plain SATA, no problem. I have x-64 Home Premium and had zero issues with SATA, just plugged the drive in and loaded the OS. You just need to configure the BIOS properly before you start the OS load. For that you'll need to read the manual.

When I get set to do a new build I generally go to the individual web sites and pick up the drivers there, D/L and place them all in one file. I transfer this to a thumb drive and then load it in after the OS is done and formatted.

You can look on Intel under support/desktop/chipset variety.
You'll need GPU, sound and Lan(ethernet) as well to get started.

I went to the abit site. I think what I would do for starters, is just D/L the drivers that are there. You can always update them. Especially the P35 chipset. After you get the system up, you can D/L the Intel chipset identification utility and if there are updates, it will make your life much easier.
But honestly....the driver CD that comes with the board is the easiest way to get started, then update if necessary. If you do update, dont forget to use driver cleaner.

Vista 64 should have basic drivers already inc. RAID.
The SATA controllers have basic native SATA support anyway.
The CD that comes with the board has an utility to create a driver floppy on it but it may not have the absolutely latest Intel drivers.

Yes, unfortunately the abit -USA forum server (located in the US) seems to be down - I noticed yesterday that the forums were running slowly for me.
& abit's main website servers (in Taiwan) also appear to be down atm - I think that the streaming video of Computex killed them.

Thanks :)

I forgot an important question. Will Vista install on this board with >2GB ram in? On my older board, if I have more than 2GB of RAM in, I'll get an "IRQ NOT LESS OR EQUAL" error after the first reboot everytime. I ordered two sets of this memory:

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231145

It would be nice to just have all the RAM in and not having to go back into the case later.

Vista x-64 will install just fine with 4 GB memory on the board.:D

that memory is a good match with the IP35 pro although with 4 DIMMs you may need to tweak some voltages.

there used to be a known problem with installing Vista with more than 3GB, I don't know if it's been resolved but it was an MS problem not anything to do with any hardware.

Thanks :)

I have that same board & RAM. I installed Vista x64 without any problems whatsoever.

I was thinking about putting that memory in at (if it's stable):
800Mhz 4-4-4-12 @ 1.9v

I seem to remember 4-4-4-12 @ 800 is faster than 5-5-5-15 @ 1000. ?

I have that board and use RAID and I had to load the drivers separately, IIRC. It certainly won't hurt to have them ready. :)
