My motherboard died along the course of transporting it a short distance. It was in the trunk and was seemingly completely safe. Everything else is fine, but the board is dead as good Friday.

any ideas on the cause of death?

was it loose just sliding back and forth in your trunk? maybe a cap got bent and broke off.

the computer was all put together and operational before the ride, i dont see any missing caps, but ill look again

This is critical information :p

Basically you need to give us more information so we can help you. What makes you think the motherboard is dead and not something else? Have you tried swapping any hardware? Checked for loose cables?

Make sure the switch on the PSU is turned on. No, I am not kidding...

Yea, i went to a computer shop where some old friends work and I tested everything separately. Not even the pros at the shop had a clue, i though i should ask around where the real pros lurk :D

IP35-E, suddenly fails after physical movement.

1) Remove CPU, reseat after inspecting for pin damage.
2) Remove motherboard WITH CPU AND HEATSINK MOUNTED, test out of case for short.
3) Remove PLCC BIOS chip and reseat.
4) Remove CMOS battery and reseat.

If all fail, probably physical damage in the PCB, and it is unrepairable.

Twas a short, thanks guys :)

got her running caseless atm, i used my case for something else.

Weird.... Good tyo see you got it figured out, but a PC shop wasn't able to..... :)

Good to see you got it running again. Was the case pushed in (i.e dented)? I usually transport my computers secured with the shoulder belt on the rear seat. That way if you hit a pothole the seat and not the important drives, will absorb the shock. Make certain the processor heatsink is supported if it's not convenient to remove it.
