I just got my new IC7MAX3 and WOW, am i impressed. its a little over my head right now, but i got it cause i plan on getting heavy into cooling and overclocking. a year ago, i could barely load a game onto my harddrive....now im building my own pc top to bottom. the next step is learning about over clocking.i have a couple of questions....
A) what exactly does this FSB do, and what is a good OC speed to set it at?
B) what are some good settings for O/Cing memory? also, how does the ratio between the CPU and MEMORY work? i see 1:1, 3:2, 5:4 but i dont know what the ratio's represent. power to each?, speed?
if anybody out there with an IC7max3 MB would be so kind as to enlighten me on some good settiings, it would really appreciated.
3.0c P4 he knows changes arent
IC7MAX3 permanent,
corsair XMS pc3200 DDR but change is!
maxtor SATA 120gb HD
stock P4 HSF

well first thing id go and find is your AGP:pCI lock, and make that to "Fixed" That will make it FSB/66/33

Next thing your ram timings are 2-3-2-6? or something close to that?

I would first set Ram divider to 5:4 and raise ram voltage to 2.9V

next Since everything is ready to be o/ced id bump vcore up to 1.6V and put FSB at 220, if stable then 230. Contiune till you have your highest stable o/c

Then you need to do some ram figuring:
Boot 220fsb(if you can) 1:1 with vdimm at 2.9V. If your stable try 225. Contiune 1:1 till you cant anymore(unstablity)

Now take my pc for example: 2.4C

it breaks down to a 200mhz fsb quad pumped=800 mhz
and the multiplier is 12x giving me 2400mhz

My maximum 1:1 ratio is 263mhz fsb
263x4=1052...fsb
263x12=3156mhz

So say your maximum ram oc 1:1 is 220 but your max fsb is 230, I think the 1:1 would be much better performing than running 5:4 under intel's specs. So i would run 220 1:1
220x4=880
220x15=3300

I wouldnt run 5:4 unless your max fsb is >240mhz, but dont quote me on that because I dont know what would give you better performance: higher fsb(underclocked ram) or 1:1

oh if you want to understnad dividers

your ram is 200mhz x2 x2 =800mhz in dual channel I would worry about explaining that because I dont really care......
anyways 1:1 would be 800x1 =800/1=800
5:4 stock would be 800x4= 3200
3200/5=640
3:2 stock would be 800x2=1600
1600/3=533.3

Reason why i say run 1:1 unless your over 240fsb IS:
240x4=960
5:4 would be: 960x4=3840/5=768 which is pretty close to the intel spec of 800 mhz, but if you had a 220mhz fsb would be 704 mhz making your ram underclock itself

Also if your confused dont be afraid to PM me or if you have AIM my sn is Malochico1424

im with ya on most of that stuff. im gonna run 3dmark03 tonight and tomorrow whein im done with work, im gonna try out these settings!
you rule dude!!, thanks for taking the time to help a noob O/Cer!
you're earning interest in the first national bank of KARMA!
ill let ya know tomorrow night if its working.i got a stock heatsink, but am getting a swifttech MCX478 and a tornado fan, for extra good cooling. i cant get into water cooling yet.(i got to get my RUSH tix!) thanks again
i might get my AIM up and running again, so keep a heads up!:D

Dude.. please dont get a tornado

Ive said this in every thread I hate my fucking tornado........... please dude dont get it..............

what fan would you suggest for the swiftech heat sink?
lol, i get it, you dont like your tornado!!!!!:eek:

Get the zalman 7000ALCu

My friend has it and recieves at most 1C higher than me at low speeds when i have my tornado down.

Now at max im 3-4C under his max, but his is still silent.
Let me put it this way, when im on the phone with my tornado all the way down. I have to leave my room where my comptuer is and go into my bedroom.

Its not worth it get the zalman

Edit their are 3 mistakes i can think about and i wish someone would have told me when i ordered my system
1) I was ignorant about the tornado, people told me it was loud and when i got it the first thing i said to myself. "wtf this isnt loud" but truely its more annoying then loud. Like torture because it continues to whine for hours on end. its like a horn blast isnt "loud" to you but when your relaxing and a car alarm goes off you get pissed because its so fucking persistant
2)I wish i didnt get PC4000. Mushkin BH-5 was in mass quanity when i bought and if i really saw the benchies i woulda spent 100 bucks less and gotten better ram.

Oh 3) probably would have gotten a 160gig sata hdd.

I have over clocked my ic7 - max 3

here are the specs
2.6c@2.8ghz
fsb@215 would boot up at 220 but had stabability issues :(
vcore at 1.625

im using a radeon 9500 np and get 13599 @ 3dmark01

I orderd a powercolor 9800 pro and a zalman hs/f

Overall cloud15x helped me alot

Thanks man!

LMFAO!!! man your horror stories about the tornado have steered me to the path of rightousness!!! thanks again for all the help cloud. its good to see the informed helping the noobs.
i wish you hapiness and a new heatsink fan for christmas!(or hannakuh..or festivus..or whatever you celebrate.);)

hey cloud, whats a good score for the 3dmark03. i ran the test last night and i got a 5360?!?!?! that cant be right.
i got my 3.0c and my IC7max3 and my XMS 3200 in dual channel.
let me know.
should i run the 3dmark01 instead?

Im guessin 7K is like 21K in 01se
anywhere in the 6k's is god comming around 18-10K in 01se
5Ks is more average-great like 15K+ is 01se
and <4K is gotten by slow graphics cards

Oh yah im glad to help ya guys out
And dont worry about my loudness, going to get a new case(lian li), Mach1, VGA silencer, Ipod when the money comes around

I have the same motherboard but I haven't had the chance to really experience it yet - I've went through four sticks of Mushkin PC3200 2-2-2 Special from newegg, and I'm guessing there's a compatibility issue with the motherboard since all 4 failed memtest. I'm going to buy new RAM in like 30 minutes, and I was going to go for 1GB of that Corsair XMS PC3200 you have. How's that treating you? I'm finding corsair and abit compatiblity issues on abit's forums now, and I'm kind of scared. I really don't want to go through any more trouble. Have you had any problems so far? If so, I think I'm just going to go for some OCZ.

first off, my corsair xms are running fine at stock speed. i tried o/cing to the specs cloud gave me above, but i couldnt ge my system to post. i also tried using the turbo setting in the game accelerator options, but same....no post. im confused, cause i followed the above specs right on the money, but i cant get ANY extra out of my system. im wondering if the stock P4 hsf unit might be the cause. if that is the problem, shouldnt it work for at least a little while before it has a stability issue?
i bumped up the FSB to 215, i had the AGP/PCI locked at 66/33 my ram settings were 2-3-2-6 my voltage to 2.9 but i couldnt figure out how to raise the vcore to 1.265. cloud, what do you think im doing wrong bro. my email is jervonics@charter.net, e mail me with your number and ill call you if i have to. thanks for all the help from you guys, specially cloud.
later

if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

i got a nividia FX 5900 ultra by PNY. is there any way to O/C that?
i wondering with all my high end stuff, how am i ending up with an average 3dmark03 score.(5360):eek:

hey cloud, i m still sorta confused by what you meant with the dividers and stuff....can i contact you by AIM sometime for a little help?

i actually dont mind mine, when im not playing games i just put it on a 5volt mod (which isnt hard to do if you have a extra molex+wires around) and i can barely hear it over my other 5 coolermaster fans (2 that are on the voltmod also) with my sp-94.

but at full blast, i gotta say its pretty fuggin loud, if you dont care about noise, its a great fan, but if you do care and dont wanna do a volt mod just get a high cfm fan thats less noisy. the sp-94 is a great heatsink.

if you hate it why not get a new fan? ;)
