Abit AI7 -- floppy doesn't allow boot

I have the AI7 and I think my floppy is causing the system to hang before I can even access the BIOS. It says something like Floppy Drive Error. System Halt.

If the floppy is disconnected entirely then "floppy not found. system halt."

Is this for real? This modern motherboard REQUIRES a floppy to simply boot?

My old dell doesn't even need this.

I'm guessing the floppy drive is actually bonkers because sometimes the system won't even turn on -- just the fans spin.

But I can't bypass the floppy check so I guess I have to get a replacement.

Is this correct? Is this stupidly correct?

You either have the cable on backwards, or if you have no floppy drive, you need to disable the floppy port, and change the setting to report no floppy to the system. I have an AI7 to replace my IC7, and I have booted from floppy many times.

That's the problem... that's the catch-22 ... I'm almost sure my floppy drive is fried but I can't boot so I can't disable the floppy... unless there is a jumper somewhere.

I have no access to the BIOS.

I've never seen a floppy drive error prohibit the system from booting. It usually gives you the usual hit DEL to enter setup, or F1 to continue. Clear your CMOS and try again.
