Hey there. I have an abit ab9 Pro motherboard running a Pentium D. This weekend I upgraded that to a c2d E6750.

I was running an older bios but it booted and after checking cpuz I saw it was running at far below its clock speed. I went ahead and downloaded the latest bios 2.0 and flashed it and rebooted. The correct clock speed was then recognized but since then I have not been able to boot past the initial windows loading screen. After that point it simply shuts off and restarts.

If I replace the Pentium D however it will boot to windows.

Any ideas whats going on here or what I need to adjust?

does windows give your a short bluescreen before the shut off?

you might want to try and flash your bios back, boot to windows so it will recognize the hardware change. then flash the bios again.

No generally it just loads the first windows screen with the status bar that moves from left to right and just before it moves to the blue windows splash screen it reboots.

I did load windows once with the new processor before flashing the bios but I'm going to continue tinkering with some settings on ehre.

sounds like possibly a driver problem of some kind.
Will it run in safe mode?
do you have "automatically restart" unchecked in "Startup & recovery" (to get an error message)?

Not sure if i have the auto restart option checked. Haven't tried it in safe mode yet. I posted the same question on abits forums 1st which havent gotten any responses yet and on techguy.com.

So after checking the cpu core voltage, trying to loosen up the timings on the ram, underclocking the ram, adusting ram voltage, etc... I finally started to drop the fsb from 333 down. At 300 it will boot into windows but quickly shut off. At 290 it will boot into windows but only for about 5 minutes or so. at 275 its been running quite stable with a total fsb of 1.1 ghz. However my cpu is running well under stock at only 2.2 ghz

So I'm thinking I need to bump the ICHIO and MCH voltages to compensate for the higher bus speeds maybe?

A question arises though is that after the flash update, why would the default/spd settings provide insufficient voltate/too high bus speeds for it to be stable???

It shouldn't.
However, your RAM voltage may well have defaulted back to the JEDEC 1.8V rather than the mfr's recommended voltage.

What RAM?
Have you tried dropping the CPU:DRAM ratio to 1:1?

I'm using some good quality RAM. Corsair XMS and OCZ platinum, both DDR2 6400 i think the standard timings for both are something like 5-5-5-18 and 5-5-5-15 respectively. Used different ratio's but like I said I've even underclocked the ram. At this point it really seems to me to be some type of low voltage issue for the higher bus speeds.

Prolly tonight or tomorrow I'm going to start slowly start clocking the fsb up.
