Hello all,

I was running Vista x64 Ultimate and had mad artifcating issues when running Call of Duty 4 at any resolution. I have since formatted and install XP Pro x32 and can run COD 4 and still have artificating issues. However, I can run Assassins Creed at 1280 x 1024 or 1680 x 1050 and have very very minimal issues, at least it is playable whereas COD 4 was not. I have downloaded RivaTuner and turned the fan up to 100% during games.

Here is my current config:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe
Crucial 4 GB 800
X1900XT (stock cooler for now)
Clean install of XP Pro x32
450 watt PSU modular

I know there are probably a lot of different solutions to this problem, but any input is appreciated. I am not completly proficient in tuning a graphics card but a good hint in the right direction might do the trick.

Thanks in advance!

Are you running at stock speeds? If so, chances are your video memory is dying out. When you get artifacting at stock, that's generally the issue, especially since it's been carried over to a different OS and a clean install.

you can also try cleaning the heatsink out. i had problems with games freezing on my X1900XTX. cleaner the dust that was in the intake-part of the heatsink, problem went away :D

I will probably have to take the stock heatsink off and clean it. I attempted to clean it with a can of air but that probably didn't do the trick. I hope to have a better aftermarket heatsink here soon.

I will have to mess with RivaTuner a little more, any other programs suggested to alter the settings?

thanks for all the input so far

if that doesnt fix it then they are probably right it's dying out. Though you can always get the 4850 that would run circles around it and COD4 would be a better visual experience.

Sounds like a plan I will try to do that. Thanks!
