got some B&W DM 602 S3s and realized that they don't fit under my hutch desk and they interfere slightly with my monitor!!! bought them for 600 at a local dealer today and i also have a 500 dollar denon avr-1804 to the lower right in the pictures. i need a larger desk!

hmm i also have a very large headache now. my hearing is much better in one hear than the other too....hmmm oh well. still, i need to solve this EMI problem.
 
no offence but thats a very stupid setup considering the speaker size. you will definately fuck up your ear drums; hows abotu positioning those speakers around your room instead of them being baout 8 inches away from your ears? those things are huge in the first place, did you even bother to look at the dimensions before buying?

anyways, do you suppose that placing them in the corners of my rooms will really be that hi-fi? I obviously do not play them full blast because i am aware of hearing damage AND they will eventually be slightly further away from my monitor(approx 1 foot more on each side) when i get a new desk IF i do not put them in the corners of my room before that.
 
just for the record, i am not being a wise ass in my posts, just critiquing :) :

were you aware of how big those speakers really were? those aren't traditional comp. speakers. those are for home theater. why not go with the best of klipsch or logitech?
 
Those are some really nice speakers man...

As for eliminating the magnetism distortion issue... Well moving them away might be best but I have heard of people making magnetic shielding out of cardboard and tinfoil or something.

Beyond that i'm unsure. I personally run a set of Quest Q60 2-way 6" bookshelf speakers. They are tall (about the same height as my 21" CRT monitor) but they arn't too wide, they are kinda deep though. I don't notice any distortions on the monitor with these which surprised me when I first tried it. I have them right beside it.

And don't let these guys give you flack about those speakers! I love using real speakers and setereo equipment for computer speakers. Gives you more flexibility and sounds awesome!
 
I bet he knows this. many of us use recievers/speakers with our computers and not jsut some "PC speaker" stuff.

My mains are about as big as his, a bit shorter, but still pretty large. No problemos here, I just have a hutchless desk.

that could ba an answer for you is to just get speaker stands and hose getting a bigger desk.
 
I am getting the 601s for my surround speakers, they are about 2/3rd the size of these 602s. When I initially saw these speakers, the 602s, at my local dealer after having researched them I was amazed at how big they were and actually considered getting the 601s for my fronts but I said screw it and i just bought the 602s.... I am happy although I need stands or a bigger desk or something. The reason that i was thinking of a bigger desk is that this desk sucks because the black trim is becoming unglued and the bottom part where I rest my feet is cracking. I am looking for a 6 ft wide desk. Perhaps I will make one with a real wood door and two filing cabinets

btw, i was listening to music on my computer with WMP and 10 minutes into that my computer went to a mysterious blue screen that said that windows had been shut down to prevent damage to the computer. Has anyone ever had that message before? My right speakers is resting up against my computer. Perhaps my computer doesn't like my new speakers so close either? I have never gotten that message before and all i was doing was using WMP.

My rig has KEF 103.2 speakers on it. They are about the same size as your B&W ones. The solution is to put them on stands. I made metal ones that are custom for the speakers. The first thing that I noticed was improved imaging. I believe that you will notice an improvement in the sound, too.

And the hole for the door handle could serve as a place to route the cables underneath so that the desk could be flush with the wall.. this could very well be what I will do..
 
for the sound system you got you could look into buying a new guitar, no offence.... that 1 blows monky cock :D other then that nice setup :D :D look into ither ESP, jackson usa made, or Ibanez RG usa made series rg's speed neck is un-godly. Slap a pair of EMG-81's on there and you will be cruzin :D
 
Yeah unshielded speakers right next to a computer could be a no-no.

hat prolly happened was the ffluctuating magnetic field from the charged coil moving back and forth possibly caused an interference problem that your PC was affected by.

Rule of hat is at least 2 feet radius for alrge unshielded speakers. Large speakers have very large magnets. I've seen 4" speakers with magnets so big it took special tricks just to get them into the enclosure for top-mount properly.
 
i am buying a large door and two brand new black file cabinets and making my own desk soon. This will place my speakers 1 1/2 ft away from my monitor and well enough away from my tower which will be underneath. I have absolutely no idea where i will put my receiver though, that has always bothered me. Just look at where i have my receiver in the pictures above (and the volume is on the right side of the unit) :(
 
Hmm...

Maybe you could get a small stand or move the fridge whatever to your left and forward a bit and just reach to your left. If you have a remote control it would be far easier ;)
 
Yeah, I might end up moving the computer and the receiver to my left like you said. The computer must be near the receiver because the cables that connect the two devices are very short.

Also, I do have a remote, but it is picky. I have to point the remote directly at the receiver for it to work.
 
My reciever is the same way. If you have a bookshelf to the side of your setup, jsut put the reciever there, and then you can point the remote somehwat forward to do the adjustment.

my reciever is right on my desk, but my desk is 70" wide...so the reciever which is on the rightmost side and I'm on the leftmost side, makes for a very hard reach of the volume knob.

FWIW, my desk is an old generic brand pressed-wood corner desk. I paid $70 for it new @ office depot. Massive....I'm talking stupid huge...I actually regret buying such a huge desk If I was to put my computer in the corner, and the reciever under the desk somehow I could fit floorstanders on their sides on that desk and have no overlap. Don't make my mistake...it's not worth having a desk that tkaes 3 to move :(
 
I have a $70 corner desk from Office Depot (I think) too... you don't move it if at all possible, but if you have to it's usually easier to buy another. :rolleyes:
 
i just found a 5' 2" industrial type desk. it is for engineering (laying out blueprints). It is wide and deep. i will post pics soon.
