Just had the Thermaltake V1 overnighted so I could get my case/motherboard/memory update completed. It's been a challenge dealing with memory issues and such. Anyway, open the cooler, but.....missing a screw. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! 1 f'ing screw and I still cannot get this thing done. I guess I'll either RMA back to Newegg and get another or contact Thermaltake. Anyone here dealt with Thermaltake before?

It's a very small screw, don't have any that size. As far as I'm concerned it should have had an extra screw because they're so small. Of course I can go to the hardware store, but to me I spent 20 bucks to get it quickly and it won't work. I also would rather use the screws they provide since that's how it was designed.

I guarantee you can find that exact screw (length, thread, head type) and any hardware store. But if you'd rather RMA it, pay return shipping and wait another week and a half, that's your prerogative.

Here in the UK, you certainly can't get tiny screws at "any hardware store", maybe maplins would have them, or specialist hobby store.. I have no idea where you huys are from, i'm just commenting.

Oops. I guess I'm just so accustomed to not being able to throw a rock without hitting a Lowe's, Home Depot, True Value or Ace Hardware that I just assumed...

How do you guys build stuff?

Ok, guys enough sarcasm. In the end to me it's the principal of the matter should have been 4 screws, period. If you want to just go buy a screw to get it to work then that's up to you as well. That would be probably the easiest solution, but I light to make things difficult I guess.;)

Most screws are 6-32 threaded in a computer.

And what the hell were you thinking with this thread title...

wonderful. we're bitching about screws being missing. arcy... you rock

You guys don't get it. I'm mostly upset because I paid $20 bucks overnight so I could finish this build and then the screw is missing. I basically wasted $20 bucks that I doubt Newegg would refund. If you want to continue to ridicule me for venting then fine, belittle me or whatever. I'm done.

This forum use to be worth coming to. I'm not sure anymore.

I understand that you want Thermaltake to fix it's mistake but you say that you had this cooler overnighted so that you could install it so it seems that timing was important. Personally I would just go to the hardware store and pay the few cents it costs for the screw. Hell you can even get a few extra ones incase you lose one of them somehow.

Buy the screw at a hardware store and then call Thermaltake and ask them to ship you a few screws extra :)

No offense meant here, but complaining about an isolated Quality Control issue is the exact sort of post that makes this forum less worthwhile.

Now, I'm not trying to ridicule you, nor am I trying to do anything to you. But this problem is very easily solved. It's not Newegg's fault that their supplier failed to include a tiny piece, so the fact that you spent extra money to have the product overnighted is null and void. They lived up to their end of the bargain...

If you don't want to take the easy route and get the screw yourself, thermaltake RMA is actually pretty awesome. Give their North America line a call and they'll send you one overnight. A tip, complain that NONE of the screws were there so you get some extras ;)

Your Signature is also 3 lines too long.

Guys. you live in USA right are you still mostly standard (not metric) 9/16 7/16 etc..

Most other countrys are metric. This also works for threads on screws.

I am sure that the guys making this stuff are metric. So getting small metric screws might be a challenge at the hardware store.

heh.. I can walk into any hardware store, one of 4 within 2 miles of my house, and they have all varieties of small screws both metric and US standard sizes.

if there's a ace hardware around you they are usually helpful, i got a thermaltake waterblock a while ago and their quality sucked, sitll have the screws though your's about 2MM in diameter, and 2 inches long, with a thread pitch near that of a screw for a cd drive [the fine thread case screws used for cd drives], if so i'll mail ya one and a nut that fits it

Thanks for the tip.

best [486] thanks for offering, but I've got it taken care of. I'm tired of some company's and there crappy quality assurance. Regardless whether I can buy a screw or not, for whatever reason there are some who don't care about quality and would prefer to buy a screw that may fit something though it may not designed for that product. There's their right, but I'm not of that ilk. I prefer to have what was designed for the product and not half ass it. Flame on!!

what kind of weird hardware store do you shop at? ours have metric AND imperial screws.

a screw is a screw: It's not designed for anything, they just pick one that matches what they need.

Complain all you want, but you can get this working by going to BUY a screw on your own. I understand the frustration with missing parts, but it's a SCREW. You can get another one!

the screw i have is from a thermaltake cpu waterblock , so if the dimensions are the same it will work, and it's probably the same quality as the other ones, measure the ones you have then try to thread it into a cd drive's threads, to test if it is the same thread pitch

best [486] I really appreciate the offer, but I just got a replacement and there are 4 screws with it. So, I'm set.:)
