im tring to install a 56k modem on a friends pc i built for him (yes, he still uses dialup). so every single driver for the damn thing i downloaded wont work. like i het the setup icon in the file and i get an hourglass for a second or two, then NOTHING happens. hes running 98, but i got the rite files for teh operating system. it was working fine before i had to reformat due to a sound problem, and these are the exact same drivers i downloaded then. WTF is going on?? I am so pissed off and aggrivated at this pc, i might make a pipe bomb and blow it to hell if i dont get it fixed.
 
Have you tried extracting the setup file and installing through the Device Manager?
 
yea, it was a zip so i extracted it into a folder, and thats where the setup file is. ive tried going into device manager and using it as a specified location, but it still doesnt work.

Shutdown again, put that modem in another avalible slot. reboot.

tried it, but it didnt do anything. same problem :(
 
i re-downloaded the driver, and it just mysteriously started working. thanks for the help guys!
